Targets for Waste Recycling
All waste management agencies now have some recycling targets to meet, which are set by the Environmental Agency and the government. We at Norris Tyne-and-Wear acknowledge these targets and here they are: The Environmental Agency’s duty is to protect and better the environment of England and Wales. There are several government organisations and local authorities they work with to ensure that their targets are met, and that other environmental services they have to offer get to the areas where they are needed. The quality of water, air, and land is continuously improved by the Environmental Agency. The agency strives to control environmental pollution and promote the conservation of animals, land, and natural resources. It doesn’t end there! The agency also puts effort in ensuring that people are up to date in environmental matters, raises waste removal standards and promotes the recycling of household products to significantly reduce the quantity of waste, among other objectives. You can contact the Environmental Agency office in your region, or visit the head office in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. Telephone: 08708 506 506. As for Government Targets, a landfill directive was released. The directive released contains government targets aimed at reducing the amount of waste taken to landfill spots in the UK. The target is set to take effect from the most recent year and they are: By 2015, the waste taken to landfill sites around the United Kingdom should be 35% of what was taken in 1995. The waste taken to landfill spots in the UK should be 50% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2013. That waste quantity taken to landfill sites be 75% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2010. Furthermore, the following targets were introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000, for waste recovery and to make the landfill directive achievable: 40% of waste as at 2005 should be recovered, 45% of waste should be recovered by 2010, while as of 2015, 67% of waste should be recovered. The natural recycling targets were published in the Waste Strategy 2000 by the government. These targets were: Composting and recycling should be carried out on 33% of household waste as of 2015. By the year 2010, 30% of household waste should be either recycled or it should be composted. By the year 2005, 25% of household waste should either be recycled or it should be composted and 30% was set for each local authority in 2005. The government has issued a grant to help local authorities in more recycling, reducing waste, and for landfill diversion, known as the ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. Clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electrical and electronics, vehicles, wood, clinical waste, and so on, and a few others were included in the list of products to be recycled. Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
When hiring a skip, some factors will be important and need to be thought about and considered properly. At Norris Tyne-and-Wear, we understand these factors and will briefly explain them to you. Regional Pricing – every region has its own skip hire cost. If you get a skip for £50 in London, for example, the same size might cost you just £20 in Tyne-and-Wear. How long you want to keep the skip will affect the price of the skip. The longer the period of time you intend to keep it, the more likely you are to pay a higher amount. Not also forgetting that skip hire permits have a duration too. Limitations and Restrictions – no matter the size of a skip, it will still have a weight limit. You need to know about what limitations or restrictions your skip hire service provider may have. Ask if there are any items that aren’t allowed in the skip and stick to the restrictions if there are, so you won’t be sanctioned or fined.
Issues with renting skips in Tyne-and-Wear
We know at Norris Tyne-and-Wear that hiring the right skip can be exhausting- more so if it involves getting a skip hire permit. Issues to be considered when hiring a skip in Tyne-and-Wear are local council laws, red routes, double yellow lines, narrow paths, congestion zones, small front space, pedestrian only lanes and red routes. At the rate at which Tyne-and-Wear is growing in population, skip hiring will become more and more difficult. You can avoid the stress of hiring skips and getting permits by hiring our waste disposal service instead.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
The regulation of waste deposits, and the recovery and removal of “controlled waste” is handled by the waste licensing system that was put in place in 1994, replacing the 1974 Control of Pollution Act. Controlled wastes are wastes from industrial, commercial, and household processes in solid or liquid form. The license is not needed by those who only dispose of waste from their personal gardens. Proof of fitness to hold the license determines if it will be granted. Anyone applying to own a new site has to have the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate, which proves they are “technically competent”.
The duty of care for people who manage creating, bringing in, movement, storing, treating and removing controlled waste is specified in section 34 of the act. It stated that “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” Waste disposal methods are regulated by special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005.
Skip Hire Permits
If you’re going to place a skip you hired for a construction project on public land, you need a skip hire permit. Using land that is not yours to place the skip means you must have a skip hire permit. This land could be a federal highway, government road, a street, or could be owned by a third party. However, if you have a piece of land or property to place the skip in, and you are sure that it won’t intrude on council land or someone else’s property, then you won’t have to get a skip permit. You risk being fined or having the skip removed and seized if you do not ensure your skip doesn’t cross out of your own land and into someone’s space. You can get a skip hire permit for £20, although the skip size and issuing council would also affect the cost. There are more expensive skip hire permits; for about £60, £80 and £100. You can contact the council office to find out more about the pricing if you wish. We make it our business at Norris Tyne-and-Wear to make skip hiring easy for you. So why go through the stress of getting a skip hire permit when we can get it for you, while we deliver the skip you require? We include the cost of getting ski hire permits in our online quotes when you request them, which can be removed if you already have land or a place on which to put the skip. Our skip hire service can come with skip hire permits that are valid for 14 days. We are always available on 020 8698 8000 to provide you with details on skip hire and other waste disposal services we have.

Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
There are recycling targets put in place by the Environmental Agency and government. These targets are upheld by us at Norris Tyne-and-Wear and here they are: The aim of the Environmental Agency is to see to the improvement and protection of the environment in England and Wales. A lot government organisations and local authorities are in place to make sure they reach their targets, and that areas that need environmental services get the ones they have to offer. This agency also works to regularly improve the quality of water, land and air. They have efforts in place for environmental pollution control and to encourage the conservation of nature. That isn’t even all! The body provides public education on environmental matters as well, supporting the recycling of household waste to reduce the quantity. You can visit them at their office in your region, or their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. You can also call them on 08 708 506 506. A landfill directive was released to address Government Targets. It specifies the targets needed to lower the quantity of waste removed to landfill areas in the UK. It further stated that, from 2007, landfills were to only take untreated waste. Beginning from the most recent year, here are the target: The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2015 should be 35% of what was taken in 1995. In 2013, only 50% of the waste collected for filling UK landfill sites in 1995 should be collected. Only 75% of the waste taken in 1995 should be taken for landfill sites in the UK in 2010. The Waste Strategy 2000 included the following targets, as a way of making sure waste is recovered and the landfill directive is reached: Of all the waste, 67% should be recovered in 2015, 45% of it recovered in 2010, and 40% of it recovered in 2005.
The government published, in the Waste Strategy 2000, the following natural recycling targets:
No less than 33% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2015. By 2010, 30% of household waste should be composted or recycled. 25% of household waste has to be composted or recycled in 2005, although local authority was 30% in that same year. A ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” was set up by the government to move the efforts of the local authorities towards more recycling and reduction of waste, and for landfill diversion. The following materials can be recycled: wood, clinical waste, metal, building materials, batteries, paper, printer, cartridges, plastic, electricals and electronics, computers, composting, and various others.
