Skip Hire sizes
We hire out skips in various sizes at Norris Suffolk. Home removal or office, we have whatever skip size you’ll need. If you just need a small skip of 2 yards to carry out small DIY projects, or as big as a 12 yard skip for industrial purposes, we have the perfect size for you. The other sizes we have include: the 2 Yard Skip, 4 Yard Skip, 6 Yard Skip, 8 Yard Skip, 10 Yard Skip, and the 12 Yard Skip.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire At Norris Suffolk, we also have the 4 yard skip for hire. The 4 yard skip has two times the capacity of the 2 yard skip, at a height of 0.90 meters. It has more space for bigger materials, including electronic appliances, kitchen and bathroom refits, and even furniture, because it has a longer width of 1.5m by 2.5m. It is big enough to hold 45 to 50 black waste bags, and more than 17 barrow loads of waste. An excellent use for it would be DIY projects and garden clearance.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire The 6 yard skip is perfect for home extension projects and office premises renovations. Builders waste like pavers stones, concrete, and soil can be moved with the 6 yard skip, which is available at Norris Suffolk. It’s perfect for stashing away heavy waste and bulky materials like soil or stones. It has a 1.8m by 3.2m width, wide enough to take about 75 to 95 black disposal bags, or 30 full barrow loads of building waste. This is pretty much the most popular skip you will find in your area.
- 8 Yard Skip Hire If your building project is quite big, the 8 yard skip we provide would be perfect. It’s similar to the 6 yard builders skip, but it can contain much more waste and refits. It has a width of 1.9m by 3.4m, but has a greater holding capacity than the 6 yard skip by almost 20%. This skip can safely hold 100-115 filled black bin bags, or 40 barrow loads of builders waste and materials. It’s also good for large home removals.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire For very big home removals or garden clearance, it is recommended to go for the 10 yard skip. You can also hire this 2.1m by 3.6m wide skip from Norris Suffolk, for your commercial projects. The 10 yard skip can contain up to 52 full barrow loads of commercial waste, or 120–140 large bin bags. This skip serves well when used for big building projects and home removals.
- 12 Yard Skip Hire This is more like a small industrial skip. At Norris Suffolk, we offer the 12 yard skip for hire for those who need a large skip for their site clearance, office clearance, or commercial projects that involve the disposal of large quantities of waste at a time. With a width of 2.5m by 4.0m, this skip is also long enough to contain 150–185 black disposable bags at any time. It also has enough space for more than 62 barrow loads of building waste such as slabs, soil, and pavers stones.

Government Issued Recycling Targets
The Environmental Agency and the government have set recycling targets for some time now. We at Norris Suffolk acknowledge these targets and here they are: The Environmental Agency’s duty is to protect and better the environment of England and Wales. Several other local authorities and organisations work with the Environmental Agency to achieve its aims, and to provide other environmental services to areas in need of it. The quality of water, air, and land is continuously improved by the Environmental Agency. The Environmental Agency encourages the conservation of animals, land, and natural resources, and controls environmental pollution by implementing certain efforts. It doesn’t end there! The Environmental Agency is determined to educate the people on anything to do with the environment, improve waste disposal standards, and improve the recycling of household items in order to reduce their quantity. Reach out to the Environmental Agency in your area, or you can call 08708 506 506 to contact their headquarters located in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. A landfill order has been issued concerning Government Targets. The directive released contains government targets aimed at reducing the amount of waste taken to landfill spots in the UK. The target is set to take effect from the most recent year and they are: The waste taken to landfill spots in the UK should be 35% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2015. That the amount of waste taken to landfill spots in the UK by 2013 be only 50% of the amount taken in 1995. The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2010 should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. To help make the landfill directive achievable and recover waste, the following targets were also introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000: 67% of waste should be recovered as of 2015, 45% of waste should be recovered as at 2010, 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005. For the natural recycling targets, you’ll find them published by the government in the Waste Strategy 2000. These targets include: By 2015, 33% of household waste should be composted or recycled. By 2010, 30% of household waste should be composted or recycled. By the year 2005, 25% of household waste should either be recycled or it should be composted and 30% was set for each local authority in 2005. To assist local authorities in recycling more waste, reducing waste, and for landfill diversion, the government issued a ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. Materials like batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electrical and electronics, vehicles, wood, clinical waste, building materials, and so on, have been listed as recyclable. If you want to keep yourself abreast of new additions to the targets, especially in recent years, contact us at Norris Suffolk office at Suffolk.

Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
There a couple of factors that should be taken into consideration when hiring a skip. All these factors are well understood by us at Norris Suffolk, and we are going to briefly help you understand as well. Regional pricing – skip hire costs differ by location, it could be higher or lower. You might get a skip at £50 in London, for instance, and get the same skip size for £20 in Suffolk. How long you want to keep the skip will affect the price of the skip. The longer the period of time you intend to keep it, the more likely you are to pay a higher amount. Keeping in mind there are time limits on skip hire permits too. Limitations and Restrictions – no matter the size of a skip, it will still have a weight limit. Ask about restrictions on the skip you’re hiring from your service provider. Some items are prohibited from being put in the skips, find out what they are, and obey the restrictions so you don’t get a fine or sanction.
Issues with renting skips in Suffolk
Skip hire is not always easy, you have to get the right one, and there’s more stress if you need a permit- we know all of this at Norris Suffolk. The following concerns may be attached to skip hiring in Suffolk: local council laws, double yellow lines, small gardens, narrow paths, congestion zones, limited front space, red routes, and pedestrian only lanes. We know that the population in Suffolk is increasing on a daily basis, meaning getting a space to place a skip will soon become more difficult. However, you can make use of our rubbish removal services, instead of worrying about renting a skip and hustling for a skip hire permit.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
For “controlled waste” deposit, recovery and removal regulation, a new waste licensing system replaced the 1974 Control of Pollution Act in 1994. Controlled wastes are wastes from industrial, commercial, and household processes in solid or liquid form. If you only do personal garden waste removal, however, you do not require the license. Proof of fitness to hold the license determines if it will be granted. The Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate is often presented by people applying to own new sites, to show they are “technically competent”.
Those involved in the creation, bringing in, conveyance, storage, treatment or removal of controlled waste have their own duty of care in section 34 of the Act. The following was stated in the Act: “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” The special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005 are in charge of controlling the way waste is disposed.
Skip Hire Permits
Do you want to hire a skip for a construction project that will involve placing it on public land? Then you will need a skip hire permit. Skip hire permits have to be obtained when you need to use land that isn’t your property to place your skip. Federal highways, streets, government roads, and land owned by any third party are those that require skip hire permits. You don’t need a skip hire permit if you have your own land and won’t be intruding on government or third party-owned land. Your skip could be removed and seized, however, if it extends into land that isn’t yours or that of those involved in your project, you even be fined. For as low as £20 you can get a skip hire permit – depending on the size of the skip and the council that is issuing the permit to you at the time. There are skip hire permits that may cost as much as £60, £80, and up to £100 sometimes. The council office is a good place to get all the pricing details you need. At Norris Suffolk, we consider it our responsibility to ease your skip hire process. We can get you a skip hire permit and deliver the skip you hire to save you stress. Request an online quote and we will include the cost of getting a skip hire permit, which would be excluded, of course, if you have property to use. We can get skip hire services along with permits that have up to 14 day validity. You can reach us now on 020 8698 8000 if you need to know more details on skip hire permits and other waste disposal services.

Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
The Environmental Agency and government have been setting recycling targets for some time now. We at Norris Suffolk acknowledge these targets and here they are: The goal of the Environmental Agency is to secure the protection and improvement of the environment in England and Wales. A lot government organisations and local authorities are in place to make sure they reach their targets, and that areas that need environmental services get the ones they have to offer. The aim of the agency is also to make sure the quality of land, air and water gets better constantly. They work towards the control of pollution in the environment and encourage the protection of natural resources like plants and animals. That isn’t even all! The body provides public education on environmental matters as well, supporting the recycling of household waste to reduce the quantity. The Environmental Agency can be contacted on 08708 506 506 or through their office in your locality, or their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. With respect to Government Targets, a landfill directive was released. It gives a recommended target on how much the amount of waste needs to be reduced for landfilling spots in the United Kingdom. It also added, from 2007, that landfills shouldn’t take waste that hasn’t been treated. Starting from the most recent year, these are the targets: The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2015 should be 35% of what was taken in 1995. No more that 50% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2013. In 2010, only 75% of the waste collected for filling UK landfill sites in 1995 should be collected. In addition to that, the Waste Strategy 2000 introduced the following targets, to recover waste and meet the landfill directive: 67% of the waste must be recovered by 2015, 45% must be recovered by 2010, and 40% must be recovered by 2005.
The natural recycling targets were published in the Waste Strategy 2000 by the government. These targets were:
33% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2015. 30% of household waste has to be composted or recycled in 2010. No less than 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2005, local authorities were set at 30% for the same year. The government issued a ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” to help local authorities recycle more, reduce waste, and for landfill diversions. A list of materials that can be recycled include: wood, vehicles, composting, clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electricals and electronics, computers, and a few others.
