Skip Hire sizes
Our skips are available for hire in different sizes. Our skip sizes will fit with whatever you’re planning to do, from office clearing to home removal. If you need a small skip size like a 2 yard, or a big one of 12 yards, either way we have you covered. The other sizes we have include: the 2 Yard Skip, 4 Yard Skip, 6 Yard Skip, 8 Yard Skip, 10 Yard Skip, and the 12 Yard Skip.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire You can also hire a 4 yard skip at Norris Witney. Its holding capacity is twice that of the 2 yard skip, and is just 0.90 meters in height. It has more space for bigger materials, including electronic appliances, kitchen and bathroom refits, and even furniture, because it has a longer width of 1.5m by 2.5m. It can hold just over 17 full barrow loads of waste and 45 to 50 black waste bags. It’s ideal for house or garden clearance, and other DIY projects.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire This skip is ideal if you intend to do a home extension project or renovations on your office premises. The 6 yard skip may be used to carry builders waste like soil and pavers stones, and is provided at Norris Witney. If you want to store heavy waste and bulky materials like soil or stones, the 6 yard skip is just perfect. It’s around 1.8m by 3.2m wide, and can hold between 75 to 95 black bin bags, or 30 full barrow loads of building waste. This is pretty much the most popular skip you will find in your area.
- 8 Yard Skip Hire The 8 yard skip, which we have for hire, is suitable for very big projects such as home extensions. The only difference between the 8 yard and 6 yard skip is that it can contain more items. It’s around 1.9m by 3.4m wide, but it can take almost 20% more than what the 6 yard skip can. This skip can safely hold 100-115 filled black bin bags, or 40 barrow loads of builders waste and materials. It is ideal for large home removals as well.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire If you’re looking for a much bigger skip for a large garden clearance or home removal, then you should check out the 10 yard skip. Norris Witney has the 2.1m by 3.6m wide 10 yard skip available for hire for commercial projects. It is big enough to hold up to 52 barrows filled with commercial waste, or 120–140 large bin bags at a time. For larger building projects, home removals, and garden or site clearance, this is the skip to use.
- 12 Yard Skip Hire This skip is suitable for industrial processes. At Norris Witney, we offer the 12 yard skip for hire for those who need a large skip for their site clearance, office clearance, or commercial projects that involve the disposal of large quantities of waste at a time. 150-185 black waste bags can fit into this large 2.3 by 4.0m skip at any time. It also has enough space for more than 62 barrow loads of building waste such as slabs, soil, and pavers stones.

Government Issued Recycling Targets
All waste management agencies now have some recycling targets to meet, which are set by the Environmental Agency and the government. We acknowledge these targets which include: The English and Welsh environment is protected and improved upon by the Environmental Agency. The Environmental Agency does not meet its targets or offer other environmental services to areas that need it all alone, because they partner with several other local authorities and organisations to achieve these goals. The Environmental Agency also strives to improve the quality of water, land, and air continuously. The Environmental Agency encourages the conservation of animals, land, and natural resources, and controls environmental pollution by implementing certain efforts. There are still other things! They also educate people on issues that are related to the environment, promote household product recycling to reduce its quantity, better waste disposal standards, and so on. You can contact the Environmental Agency office in your region, or visit the head office in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. Telephone: 08708 506 506. Concerning the targets set by the government, they have released a directive. The directive released contains government targets aimed at reducing the amount of waste taken to landfill spots in the UK. Taking effect from the most recent year, the targets include: By 2015, the waste taken to landfill sites around the United Kingdom should be 35% of what was taken in 1995. By 2013, the waste taken to landfill sites around the United Kingdom should be 50% of what was taken in 1995. That waste quantity taken to landfill sites be 75% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2010. Also, some targets were introduced for waste recovery, and to help make the landfill directive achievable by the Waste Strategy 2000: As at 2015, 67% of waste should be recovered, 45% of waste should be recovered as of 2010, while 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005. The Waste Strategy of 2000 contains the natural recycling targets published by the government. Below are the targets: 33% of household waste should be composted or recycled by 2015. By the year 2010, 30% of household waste should be either recycled or it should be composted. Composting and recycling should be carried out on 25% of household waste as of 2005, while each local authority was 30% in the same year. Local authorities can now be assisted to do more recycling through the government issued “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” which will also help reduce waste and landfill diversion. Recyclable materials were listed, which include: wood, vehicles, clinical waste, building materials, composting, printer cartridges, batteries, paper, computers, plastic, glass, furniture, oil, metal, electronic and electricals, and so on. At Norris Witney office at Witney, you will get updated if there are any additions to the above targets, especially in recent years.

Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
There a couple of factors that should be taken into consideration when hiring a skip. At Norris Witney, we understand these factors and will briefly explain them to you. Regional Pricing – every region has its own skip hire cost. If you get a skip for £50 in London, for example, the same size might cost you just £20 in Witney. Time duration on the hire is another factor that affects pricing, when you want to keep a skip for a long period of time, you’ll have to pay more. Also bearing in mind that skip hire permits only last for a set period of time as well. Limitations and Restrictions – you can’t always put a huge amount of weight in a skip just because it looks big. Make enquiries from your service provider on the limitations they might have. Some items are prohibited from being put in the skips, find out what they are, and obey the restrictions so you don’t get a fine or sanction.
Issues with renting skips in Witney
At Norris Witney, we are aware of all the challenges that come with hiring the best skips, especially if you have to get a skip hire permit as well. Some of the issues with renting skips in Witney are local council laws, pedestrian only lanes, little or no space in front, small gardens, not enough parking space, narrow paths, congestion zones, double yellow lines, and red routes. We are also aware of the increasing population in Witney, which will mean increased difficulty in skip hiring in the near future. Alternative to kip hiring and getting a hire permit, our waste disposal services are available for your use.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
The Control of Pollution Act of 1974 was replaced by a new waste licensing system in 1994 to regulate the deposit, recovery, and removal of “controlled waste”. Controlled waste refers to liquid or solid industrial, commercial, and household wastes. However, people who are just disposing of waste from their personal garden were exempted from the need of the license. In order to have the license, the person applying has to show that they are fit to hold it. If an applicant wishes to own a new site, they have to show how “technically competent” they are by possessing the (WAMITAB) certificate, this is the the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board.
Section 34 of the act includes the duty of care for people who are part of creating, bringing in, conveying, storing, treating, and removing controlled waste. The following was stated in the Act: “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” Waste disposal regulation is handled by special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005.
Skip Hire Permits
If you’re going to place a skip you hired for a construction project on public land, you need a skip hire permit. In regards to the land or space you would be placing the skip on that isn’t yours, you need a skip hire permit. These lands include federal highways and government roads, third party owned lands, and land along streets. However, if you have a piece of land or property to place the skip in, and you are sure that it won’t intrude on council land or someone else’s property, then you won’t have to get a skip permit. If you happen to cross into someone else’s land who isn’t a part of your project, or invade another person’s privacy with the skip, it could be seized or you could be fined. With £20, you can get a skip hire permit, but charges may differ because of the skip size or council who issue the permit. There are also skip hire permits that cost £60, £80, and even as much as £100. You can contact the council office to find out more about the pricing if you wish. At Norris Witney, we consider it our responsibility to ease your skip hire process. We can get you a skip hire permit and deliver the skip you hire to save you stress. The cost of getting a skip hire permit is often added to the online quote you request , although this won’t matter if you have space or land for keeping the skip. Our skip hire service can come with skip hire permits that are valid for 14 days. Call us today on 020 8698 8000 and we will provide you with any details you might need on our skip hire permits and waste management services.

Closed skip or open skip, we can deliver whichever you want with proof of its efficiency and quality. Call us today on 020 8698 8000 and our experts will be available to answer all your queries. At Norris Witney, we accept various types of waste in our skips. There are products, however, that are prohibited from being put in our skips. We can get these products from you and have them treated depending on how hazardous they are. These restricted items are automotive oils and fluids, medical waste, car tyres, heavy duty batteries, gas canisters, television sets, air conditioning units, refrigerators, aerosols, and fluorescent light bulbs.
Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
Recycling targets were created by the Environmental Agency and government some time ago. We recognize these recycling targets at Norris Witney and here they are: The Environmental Agency is on a mission to make sure the environment in England and Wales is improved and protected. Some government organisations and local authorities are tasked with the job of meeting their targets and making sure other environmental services available get to needed locations. The Environmental Agency also endeavors to make sure land, air and water are constantly improved in terms of quality. They implement steps that aim to control pollution in the environment, encouraging efforts towards preserving natural resources as well. That isn’t even all! The body provides public education on environmental matters as well, supporting the recycling of household waste to reduce the quantity. The agency can be contacted on 08 708 506 506, or by their office in your region. You can also visit their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. A landfill directive was released because of Government Targets. It gives a recommended target on how much the amount of waste needs to be reduced for landfilling spots in the United Kingdom. It also added, from 2007, that landfills shouldn’t take waste that hasn’t been treated. Find the targets below, starting from the most recent year: No more that 35% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2015. The quantity of waste allowed to be taken and used for landfills in the UK by 2013 shouldn’t exceed 50% of what was taken in 1995. No more that 75% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2010 The Waste Strategy 2000 included the following targets, as a way of making sure waste is recovered and the landfill directive is reached: Of all the waste, 67% should be recovered in 2015, 45% of it recovered in 2010, and 40% of it recovered in 2005.
The targets for natural recycling were published in the Waste Strategy 2000 by the government. They include:
33% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2015. By 2010, 30% of household waste should be composted or recycled. No less than 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2005, local authorities were set at 30% for the same year. To help the local authorities recycle more and reduce waste and for landfill diversions, a “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” was released by the government. Here is list of materials that can be recycled: plastic, electricals and electronics, computers, composting, wood, clinical waste, metal, building materials, batteries, paper, printer, cartridges and a lot of others.
