Skip Hire sizes
There are a wide range of skip sizes for hire here at Norris Whitechapel. Whether you’re planning an office clearing or a home removal, we have the perfect skip size to meet your needs. If you need a small skip size like a 2 yard, or a big one of 12 yards, either way we have you covered. Our skips are in sizes 2 yard, 4 yard, 6 yard, 8 yard, 10 yard, and 12 yard.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire You can also hire a 4 yard skip at Norris Whitechapel. Its holding capacity is twice that of the 2 yard skip, and is just 0.90 meters in height. Its width of 1.5m by 2.5m allows space for larger products, such as kitchen and bathroom refits, appliances, electronics, and furniture. It has enough space for 45 to 50 black waste bags, and a little over 17 full barrow loads of waste. It will fit well into your garden clearance, or do-it-yourself project plan.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire This skip works perfectly for home extensions and office premises renovation projects. Builders waste like pavers stones, concrete, and soil can be moved with the 6 yard skip, which is available at Norris Whitechapel. If you want to store heavy waste and bulky materials like soil or stones, the 6 yard skip is just perfect. It has enough space for 75 to 95 black bin bags, or 30 full barrow loads of builders waste due to its width of 1.8m by 2.3m. This skip is probably the most used around your area.
- 8 Yard Skip Hire We have the 8 yard skip available, which is perfect for bigger building projects. It’s not that different from the 6 yard skip, but it has a larger holding capacity. It’s around 1.9m by 3.4m wide, but it can take almost 20% more than what the 6 yard skip can. It has enough room for up to 100-115 full black bin bags, or 40 barrow loads of builders waste materials. It is ideal for large home removals as well.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire For very big home removals or garden clearance, it is recommended to go for the 10 yard skip. This skip is 2.1m by 3.6m wide, and can be used for commercial projects, it can be hired at Norris Whitechapel. The 10 yard skip can contain up to 52 full barrow loads of commercial waste, or 120–140 large bin bags. If you’re handling a big building project or home removal, this skip would be the best choice.
- 12 Yard Skip Hire This is more like a small industrial skip. At Norris Whitechapel, we offer the 12 yard skip for hire for those who need a large skip for their site clearance, office clearance, or commercial projects that involve the disposal of large quantities of waste at a time. With a width of 2.5m by 4.0m, this skip is also long enough to contain 150–185 black disposable bags at any time. It also has enough space for more than 62 barrow loads of building waste such as slabs, soil, and pavers stones.

Government Issued Recycling Targets
New recycling targets have been set by the government and the Environmental Agency to be reached by every waste management agency. Norris Whitechapel experts recognize these targets, which are: The Environmental Agency’s duty is to protect and better the environment of England and Wales. The Environmental Agency does not meet its targets or offer other environmental services to areas that need it all alone, because they partner with several other local authorities and organisations to achieve these goals. The Environmental Agency continuously strives to improve water, land, and air quality. They implement efforts to control environmental pollution, and further encourage the conservation of plants, animals, and other natural resources. It gets better! The agency also puts effort in ensuring that people are up to date in environmental matters, raises waste removal standards and promotes the recycling of household products to significantly reduce the quantity of waste, among other objectives. With the telephone number – 08708 506 506, you can contact the Environmental Agency head office in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD, or contact their office in your region. A landfill directive has been released in relation to Government Targets. It states the targets for lowering the quantity of waste taken to landfill spots in the United Kingdom. Starting from the most recent year, these are the targets: The waste taken to landfill spots in the UK should be 35% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2015. The waste taken to landfill spots in the UK should be 50% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2013. By 2010, the waste taken to landfill sites around the United Kingdom should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. The following targets were also introduced by the Waste Strategy of 2000 to recover waste and help in achieving the landfill directive: 67% of waste should be recovered as of 2015, 45% of waste should be recovered as at 2010, 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005. The Waste Strategy of 2000 contains the natural recycling targets published by the government. The following are the targets: Composting and recycling should be carried out on 33% of household waste as of 2015. 30% of household waste should be composted or recycled by 2010. By the year 2005, 25% of household waste should either be recycled or it should be composted and 30% was set for each local authority in 2005. The government has issued a grant to help local authorities in more recycling, reducing waste, and for landfill diversion, known as the ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. Here is a list of recyclable materials: computers, printer cartridges, glass, oil, electrical and electronics, furniture, batteries, paper, vehicles, clinical waste, metal, and a variety of others. At Norris Whitechapel office at Whitechapel, you will get updated if there are any additions to the above targets, especially in recent years.

Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
Skip hire pricing factors need to be well considered before hiring a skip. All these factors are well understood by us at Norris Whitechapel and we are going to make them clear to you. Regional Pricing – the cost of hiring a skip differs from region to region. If you get a skip for £50 in London, for example, the same size might cost you just £20 in Whitechapel. The longer you need to hold on to a skip, the more expensive the skip will be, because pricing is affected by time as well. Keeping in mind there are time limits on skip hire permits too. Limitations and Restrictions – you can’t always put a huge amount of weight in a skip just because it looks big. You have to find out if there are limitations from your skip hire service provider. Ask if there are any items that aren’t allowed in the skip and stick to the restrictions if there are, so you won’t be sanctioned or fined.
Issues with renting skips in Whitechapel
Skip hire is not always easy, you have to get the right one, and there’s more stress if you need a permit- we know all of this at Norris Whitechapel. Some of the issues with renting skips in Whitechapel are local council laws, pedestrian only lanes, little or no space in front, small gardens, not enough parking space, narrow paths, congestion zones, double yellow lines, and red routes. At the rate at which Whitechapel is growing in population, skip hiring will become more and more difficult. Alternative to kip hiring and getting a hire permit, our waste disposal services are available for your use.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
The Control of Pollution Act of 1974 was replaced by a new waste licensing system in 1994 to regulate the deposit, recovery, and removal of “controlled waste”. Controlled waste refers to liquid or solid industrial, commercial, and household wastes. If you only do personal garden waste removal, however, you do not require the license. Anyone applying for the license has to show proof that they can handle it. “Technical competence” is something an applicant for new site ownership needs to show by having the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate .
Section 34 of the act includes the duty of care for people who are part of creating, bringing in, conveying, storing, treating, and removing controlled waste. It stated that “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” The special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005 are in charge of controlling the way waste is disposed.
Skip Hire Permits
You need a skip hire permit if you want to hire a skip for a construction project and will have to place it on public land. In regards to the land or space you would be placing the skip on that isn’t yours, you need a skip hire permit. It could be land that belongs to a third party, a federal highway, government road, or along the street. A skip hire isn’t necessary when you have land to use and won’t be crossing into another person’s land or government owned land. But, if you place a skip in a position that infringes on the privacy of another person not involved in your project, the skip might be removed and seized, or you could even be fined. Depending on your location and the size of the skip involved, £20 should be able to get you a skip hire permit. There are skip hire permits that may cost as much as £60, £80, and up to £100 sometimes. The local council office can provide you with the specifics you need on pricing. At Norris Whitechapel, we consider it our responsibility to ease your skip hire process. We also provide skip hire permit procurement along with skip delivery to make the whole process stress free. Our online quotes also include skip hire permit costs, which doesn’t matter if you have your own land or space on which to place the skip. Our skip hire service can come with skip hire permits that are valid for 14 days. Call us today on 020 8698 8000 and we will provide you with any details you might need on our skip hire permits and waste management services.

Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
Recycling targets were created by the Environmental Agency and government some time ago. We uphold these set recycling rules at Norris Whitechapel and you can find them below: The goal of the Environmental Agency is to secure the protection and improvement of the environment in England and Wales. Many government organisations and local authorities are in place to ensure recycling targets are met, and that areas needing environmental services receive the services they have available. The Environmental Agency also strives to improve the quality of water, land, and air continuously. They work towards the control of pollution in the environment and encourage the protection of natural resources like plants and animals. It doesn’t end there! The body educates the public on environmental matters, like better waste removal standards, by promoting the recycling of household waste to reduce how much waste they have. The Environmental Agency can be contacted on 08708 506 506 or through their office in your locality, or their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. A landfill directive was released because of Government Targets. It states that targets for lowering the quantity of waste taken to landfill spots in the United Kingdom. It also added, from 2007, that landfills shouldn’t take waste that hasn’t been treated. Starting from the most recent year, these are the targets: No more that 35% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2015. In 2013, only 50% of the waste collected for filling UK landfill sites in 1995 should be collected. The quantity of waste allowed to be taken and used for landfills in the UK by 2010 shouldn’t exceed 75% of what was taken in 1995. Also, these targets were introduced by Waste Strategy 2000, for the recovery of waste and achieving the landfill directive: y 2015, 67% of the waste has to be recovered, 45% recovered by 2010, 40% by 2005.
The government published, in the Waste Strategy 2000, the following natural recycling targets:
Household waste that is composted or recycled in 2015 should make up 33% of total waste. No less than 30% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2010. 25% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2005, even though local authorities had a 30% target in the same year. The government issued a ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” to help local authorities recycle more, reduce waste, and for landfill diversions. A list of materials that can be recycled include: wood, vehicles, composting, clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electricals and electronics, computers, and a few others.
