Skip Hire sizes
We hire out skips in various sizes at Norris Twickenham. Whether you’re planning an office clearing or a home removal, we have the perfect skip size to meet your needs. If you need a small skip size like a 4 Yard, or a big one of 12 yards, either way we have you covered. Our skip sizes are 4 Yard, 4 yard, 6 yard, 8 yard, 10 yard, and 12 yard.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire The 4 Yard skip is also available at Norris Twickenham for general use. It fits into an office or home environment, with space for a limited amount of waste at a time. It can hold 20-35 black disposable bags at any given time, and is fit for small do-it-yourself clear outs, garden clearance, and home removals. This skip is portable and anyone can use it. It is the smallest skip in terms of size too.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire Norris Twickenham also hires out 4 yard skips. The 4 yard skip is two times bigger in holding space than the 4 Yard skip, and is 0.90meters long. It has more space for bigger materials, including electronic appliances, kitchen and bathroom refits, and even furniture, because it has a longer width of 1.5m by 2.5m. It can take as many as 45 to 50 black waste bags, and a little over 17 full barrow loads of waste. It’s ideal for house or garden clearance, and other DIY projects.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire This skip works perfectly for home extensions and office premises renovation projects. Norris Location has 6 yard skips to move builders waste such as concrete, slabs and soil at your disposal. It works excellently for stashing away heavy waste and materials such as soil and stones. It has enough space for 75 to 95 black bin bags, or 30 full barrow loads of builders waste due to its width of 1.8m by 2.3m. This is pretty much the most popular skip you will find in your area.
- 8 Yard Skip Hire We also hire out 8 yard skips, which are best used for extensive projects. The 8 yard skip is very similar to the 6 yard skip, but it just has room for more items. It has almost 20% more space than the 6 yard skip, and it is just 1.9m by 3.4m in width. 100-115 black disposable bags can fit well into the 8 yard skip, as can 40 barrow loads of soil, concrete, and other builders waste. It is ideal for large home removals as well.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire If you’re looking for a much bigger skip for a large garden clearance or home removal, then you should check out the 10 yard skip. This skip is 2.1m by 3.6m wide, and can be used for commercial projects, it can be hired at Norris Twickenham. The 10 yard skip can contain up to 52 full barrow loads of commercial waste, or 120–140 large bin bags. If you’re handling a big building project or home removal, this skip would be the best choice.
- 12 yard Skip Hire This skip is suitable for industrial processes. The 12 yard skip can serve for projects like site clearances, office clearances, and commercial projects that will require large amounts of waste disposal at once, and is available for hire at Norris Twickenham. With a width of 2.5m by 4.0m, this skip is also long enough to contain 150–185 black disposable bags at any time. The Environmental Agency and the government have set recycling targets for some time now. We at Norris Twickenham acknowledge these targets and here they are: The agency charged with protecting and improving the English and Welsh environment is the Environmental Agency. Several other local authorities and organisations work with the Environmental Agency to achieve its aims, and to provide other environmental services to areas in need of it. The Environmental Agency also strives to improve the quality of water, land, and air continuously. The agency strives to control environmental pollution and promote the conservation of animals, land, and natural resources. There is more! They also educate people on issues that are related to the environment, promote household product recycling to reduce its quantity, better waste disposal standards, and so on. Get in touch with the Environmental Agency office in your location, or you can find the head office in Bristol Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. Telephone: 08708 506 506. A landfill directive has been released in relation to Government Targets. The directive sets out all the targets to be reached, which will see a decrease of the quantity of waste taken to different landfill spots in the United Kingdom. Taking effect from the most recent year, the targets include: Waste quantity taken to landfill sites should be 35% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2015. That waste quantity taken to landfill sites be 50% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2015. The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2010 should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. Furthermore, the following targets were introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000, for waste recovery and to make the landfill directive achievable: 45% of waste is to be recovered as of 2010, while 67% and 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2015 and 2005 respectively. The Waste Strategy of 2000 contains the natural recycling targets published by the government. Below are the targets: Composting and recycling should be carried out on 33% of household waste as of 2015. The target projects that, as of 2010, 30% of household waste should either be recycled or composted. 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled, and local authorities were set at 30% both by 2005. To assist local authorities in recycling more waste, reducing waste, and for landfill diversion, the government issued a ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. Materials like batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electrical and electronics, vehicles, wood, clinical waste, building materials, and so on, have been listed as recyclable. To be up to date on any new entry in the targets, especially in recent years, visit the Norris Twickenham office at Twickenham.

Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
There a couple of factors that should be taken into consideration when hiring a skip. We at Norris Twickenham understand these skip hire pricing factors, and we have decided to give you a brief explanation of each of them. Regional Pricing – skip hire costs are different in each region. A skip priced at £50 in London, for example, may be priced at £20 in Twickenham. How long you want to keep the skip will affect the price of the skip. The longer the period of time you intend to keep it, the more likely you are to pay a higher amount. Taking into consideration that skip hire permits have a time duration. Limitations and Restrictions – every skip can only take a certain amount of weight regardless of their size. You need to know about what limitations or restrictions your skip hire service provider may have. Some items are prohibited from being put in the skips, find out what they are, and obey the restrictions so you don’t get a fine or sanction.
Issues with renting skips in Twickenham
We know at Norris Twickenham that hiring the right skip can be exhausting- more so if it involves getting a skip hire permit. Issues to be considered when hiring a skip in Twickenham are local council laws, red routes, double yellow lines, narrow paths, congestion zones, small front space, pedestrian only lanes and red routes. We know that the growing population in Twickenham will mean a more difficult skip hiring process soon. Alternative to kip hiring and getting a hire permit, our waste disposal services are available for your use.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
The regulation of waste deposits, and the recovery and removal of “controlled waste” is handled by the waste licensing system that was put in place in 1994, replacing the 1974 Control of Pollution Act. Solid or liquid commercial, industrial, and household waste is called controlled waste. Personal garden waste disposal does not require the use of the license. In order to have the license, the person applying has to show that they are fit to hold it. The Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate is often presented by people applying to own new sites, to show they are “technically competent”.
The duty of care for people who manage creating, bringing in, movement, storing, treating and removing controlled waste is specified in section 34 of the act. The following was stated in the Act: “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” There are also the special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005, that regulates how waste should be disposed of.
Skip Hire Permits
A skip hire permit is a must have for skips hired for construction projects with the intention of placing them on any public land. Using land that is not yours to place the skip means you must have a skip hire permit. These lands include federal highways and government roads, third party owned lands, and land along streets. A skip hire isn’t necessary when you have land to use and won’t be crossing into another person’s land or government owned land. You risk being fined or having the skip removed and seized if you do not ensure your skip doesn’t cross out of your own land and into someone’s space. Getting a skip hire permit can cost as low as £20, based on the skip size and council you have to get the permit from. There are also skip hire permits for a lot more than £20, including £60, £80 and £100. Details on skip hire costs can be requested from the local council office. We want to ensure you have a much easier skip hire process at Norris Twickenham. Why bother then with getting a skip hire permit when we can get it done for you, along with delivering the skip you hire? The cost of getting a skip hire permit is often added to the online quote you request , although this won’t matter if you have space or land for keeping the skip. Our skip hire service can come with skip hire permits that are valid for 14 days. We are always available on 020 8698 8000 to provide you with details on skip hire and other waste disposal services we have.

Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
The Environmental Agency and government have been setting recycling targets for some time now. We at Norris Twickenham acknowledge these targets and here they are: The Environmental Agency aims to make sure the Englands’ and Wales’ environment can improve and is protected. There are many government organisations and local authorities that have the duty of making sure these targets are achieved and the services they have available get to the environments that need them. The Environmental Agency also endeavors to make sure land, air and water are constantly improved in terms of quality. They implement steps that aim to control pollution in the environment, encouraging efforts towards preserving natural resources as well. That’s not all! The body also enlightens the general populace on issues regarding the environment, improving waste removal standards, encouraging the recycling of household products to reduce the quantity of waste, and lots more. The Environmental Agency can be contacted on 08708 506 506 or through their office in your locality, or their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. To handle Government Targets, a landfill directive was issued. It states that targets for lowering the quantity of waste taken to landfill spots in the United Kingdom. It further stated that, from 2007, landfills were to only take untreated waste. Starting from the most recent year, these are the targets: The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2015 should be 35% of what was taken in 1995. Only 50% of the waste taken in 1995 should be taken for landfill sites in the UK in 2013. No more that 75% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2010 Furthermore, the following targets were introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000, for waste recovery and to make the landfill directive achievable: 67% of waste should be recovered as of 2015, 45% of waste should be recovered as of 2010, 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005.
The targets for natural recycling were published in the Waste Strategy 2000 by the government. They include:
33% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2015. No less than 30% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2010. 25% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2005, even though local authorities had a 30% target in the same year. The government issued a ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” to help local authorities recycle more, reduce waste, and for landfill diversions. Here is list of materials that can be recycled: plastic, electricals and electronics, computers, composting, wood, clinical waste, metal, building materials, batteries, paper, printer, cartridges and a lot of others.
