Skip Hire sizes
At Norris Twickenham, we have several sizes of skips for hire. It doesn’t matter if it is an office clearing or home removal you have planned, we have the right skip sizes for everything. Whether you need a skip size of 2 yards or a skip size of 12, we have something for you. The other sizes we have include: the 2 Yard Skip, 4 Yard Skip, 6 Yard Skip, 8 Yard Skip, 10 Yard Skip, and the 12 Yard Skip.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire At Norris Twickenham, we also have the 4 yard skip for hire. This skip is about 0.90 meters in height, and can hold twice as much as the 2 yard skip can. It has more space for bigger materials, including electronic appliances, kitchen and bathroom refits, and even furniture, because it has a longer width of 1.5m by 2.5m. 45 to 50 black waste bags, and a little over 17 full barrow loads of waste, can fit into it. This is perfect for garden clearance, and many other DIY projects.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire If you wish to carry out house extension projects, or some renovations in your business premises, this is probably the most ideal skip for you to hire. Norris Location has 6 yard skips to move builders waste such as concrete, slabs and soil at your disposal. It can be used to store cumbersome waste materials like soil or stones. It has a 1.8m by 3.2m width, wide enough to take about 75 to 95 black disposal bags, or 30 full barrow loads of building waste. You’ve most likely come across this skip in your area.
- 8 Yard Skip Hire If your building project is quite big, the 8 yard skip we provide would be perfect. It’s similar to the 6 yard builders skip, but it can contain much more waste and refits. It has a width of 1.9m by 3.4m, but has a greater holding capacity than the 6 yard skip by almost 20%. This skip can safely hold 100-115 filled black bin bags, or 40 barrow loads of builders waste and materials. It’s also good for large home removals.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire This skip works perfectly in large garden clearance and home removals. Norris Twickenham has the 2.1m by 3.6m wide 10 yard skip available for hire for commercial projects. It can take as many as 52 full barrow loads of commercial waste, or 120-140 big waste bags at any time. It’s ideal for larger building projects, site clearance, or home removals.
- 12 Yard Skip Hire This skip is suitable for industrial processes. We have the 12 yard skip for hire here at Norris Twickenham for any large projects, like office or site clearance, and commercial projects that have large routine waste disposal needs. This skip has a height and a width of 2.5m by 4.0m, giving it enough space for about 150–185 large disposable bags at any time. It can also hold over 62 full barrow loads of paver stones, concrete, soil, slabs and so on.

Government Issued Recycling Targets
The government and the Environmental Agency have set new targets to be reached by all recycling agencies. We acknowledge these targets which include: The mission of the Environmental Agency is to ensure the improvement and protection of the environment in England and Wales. Several other local authorities and organisations work with the Environmental Agency to achieve its aims, and to provide other environmental services to areas in need of it. The Environmental Agency continuously strives to improve water, land, and air quality. They control environmental pollution, and also encourage the conservation of animals, plants and other natural resources by implementing certain efforts towards these goals. There is more! The agency also puts effort in ensuring that people are up to date in environmental matters, raises waste removal standards and promotes the recycling of household products to significantly reduce the quantity of waste, among other objectives. You can contact the Environmental Agency office in your region, or visit the head office in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. Telephone: 08708 506 506. A landfill directive has been released in relation to Government Targets. The directive released contains government targets aimed at reducing the amount of waste taken to landfill spots in the UK. Starting from the most recent year, these are the targets: The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2015 should be 35% of what was taken in 1995. That waste quantity taken to landfill sites be 50% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2015. By 2010, the waste taken to landfill sites around the United Kingdom should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. The Waste Strategy of 2000 contains the natural recycling targets published by the government. The following are the targets: By the year 2015, 33% of household waste should either be recycled or it should be composted. The target projects that, as of 2010, 30% of household waste should either be recycled or composted. By the year 2005, 25% of household waste should either be recycled or it should be composted and 30% was set for each local authority in 2005. Local authorities can now be assisted to do more recycling through the government issued “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” which will also help reduce waste and landfill diversion. Clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electrical and electronics, vehicles, wood, clinical waste, and so on, and a few others were included in the list of products to be recycled. Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
Some factors are important to look into when hiring a skip. All these factors are well understood by us at Norris Twickenham, and we are going to briefly help you understand as well. Regional pricing – skip hire costs differ by location, it could be higher or lower. If you get a skip for £50 in London, for example, the same size might cost you just £20 in Twickenham. Time duration on the hire is another factor that affects pricing, when you want to keep a skip for a long period of time, you’ll have to pay more. Remembering as well that skip hire permits have a time frame and expiry dates. Limitations and Restrictions – different skip sizes also have different weight limits. You have to find out if there are limitations from your skip hire service provider. Ask if there are any items that aren’t allowed in the skip and stick to the restrictions if there are, so you won’t be sanctioned or fined.
Issues with renting skips in Twickenham
We know at Norris Twickenham that hiring the right skip can be exhausting- more so if it involves getting a skip hire permit. The following concerns may be attached to skip hiring in Twickenham: local council laws, double yellow lines, small gardens, narrow paths, congestion zones, limited front space, red routes, and pedestrian only lanes. We know that the growing population in Twickenham will mean a more difficult skip hiring process soon. You can avoid the stress of hiring skips and getting permits by hiring our waste disposal service instead.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
The Control of Pollution Act of 1974 was replaced by a new waste licensing system in 1994 to regulate the deposit, recovery, and removal of “controlled waste”. Any industrial, commercial, or household waste in solid or liquid form is referred to as controlled waste. However, people who are just disposing of waste from their personal garden were exempted from the need of the license. To be granted the license, whoever is applying is required to confirm their ability to hold it. If an applicant wishes to own a new site, they have to show how “technically competent” they are by possessing the (WAMITAB) certificate, this is the the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board.
People who create, bring in, convey, store, treat, or remove controlled waste were given a new duty of care in section 34 of the Act. The Act stated as follows: “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” How waste is disposed of is controlled by special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005.
Skip Hire Permits
To place a skip for a construction project on any public land, you need a skip hire permit. Using land that is not yours to place the skip means you must have a skip hire permit. The land in question may be that of a third party, a street, a government road, or a federal highway. You can use your own land or space without a skip hire permit if you have it, only ensuring you don’t cross into land that isn’t yours. You risk being fined or having the skip removed and seized if you do not ensure your skip doesn’t cross out of your own land and into someone’s space. Getting a skip hire permit can cost as low as £20, based on the skip size and council you have to get the permit from. There are also skip hire permits that cost £60, £80, and even as much as £100. You can contact the council office to find out more about the pricing if you wish. At Norris Twickenham, we consider it our responsibility to ease your skip hire process. Why bother then with getting a skip hire permit when we can get it done for you, along with delivering the skip you hire? When you request an online quote, we include the cost of getting a permit, which will not be necessary if you have land of your own to place the skip in. We provide skip hire services along with permits that last for up to 14 days. We are always available on 020 8698 8000 to provide you with details on skip hire and other waste disposal services we have.

Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
A number of targets for recycling were set by the Environmental Agency and government. At Norris Twickenham, we acknowledge these set recycling targets and they are as follows: The Environmental Agency aims to make sure the Englands’ and Wales’ environment can improve and is protected. Many government organisations and local authorities are in place to ensure recycling targets are met, and that areas needing environmental services receive the services they have available. The agency aspires to ensure regular improvements in the quality of land, air and water as well. They implement efforts to control environmental pollution and further encourage the conservation of plants, animals and other natural resources. They don’t stop there either! The body works to educate the general populace on environmental issues to improve waste handling standards, by encouraging more recycling of waste in the household to cut down on overall waste quantity. The agency can be contacted on 08 708 506 506, or by their office in your region. You can also visit their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. As for Government Targets, a landfill directive was released. It specifies the targets needed to lower the quantity of waste removed to landfill areas in the UK. Inclusions were made for landfills to only take treated waste from 2007. Beginning from the most recent year, here are the target: The quantity of waste allowed to be taken and used in landfills in the UK by 2015 shouldn’t exceed 35% of what was taken in 1995. The quantity of waste allowed to be taken and used for landfills in the UK by 2013 shouldn’t exceed 50% of what was taken in 1995. The quantity of waste allowed to be taken and used for landfills in the UK by 2010 shouldn’t exceed 75% of what was taken in 1995. Furthermore, the following targets were introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000, for waste recovery and to make the landfill directive achievable: 67% of waste should be recovered as of 2015, 45% of waste should be recovered as of 2010, 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005.
Waste Strategy 2000 had published in it, by the government, the natural recycling targets, which are as follows:
33% of household waste has to be composted or recycled in 2015. 30% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2010. Household waste that is composted or recycled, in 2015, should be 25%, while the local authorities had a 30% target. The government issued a ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” to help local authorities recycle more, reduce waste, and for landfill diversions. A list of materials that can be recycled include: wood, vehicles, composting, clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electricals and electronics, computers, and a few others.
