Skip Hire sizes
We have skips for hire in different sizes at Norris South-Kensington. It doesn’t matter if it is an office clearing or home removal you have planned, we have the right skip sizes for everything. Whatever your project we have a skip size for you. We have skip sizes in 2 yard, 4 yard, 6 yard, 8 yard, 10 yard, and 12 yard.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire You can also hire a 4 yard skip at Norris South-Kensington. Its holding capacity is twice that of the 2 yard skip, and is just 0.90 meters in height. With a 1.5m by 2.5m width, it can hold bigger items like electronics, bathroom refits, furniture, kitchen refits, and appliances. It can hold just over 17 full barrow loads of waste and 45 to 50 black waste bags. This is perfect for garden clearance, and many other DIY projects.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire This skip is ideal if you intend to do a home extension project or renovations on your office premises. The 6 yard skip is suitable for carrying builders waste and is available at Norris South-Kensington. It is an ideal storage option for materials and waste like stones and soil. - 8 Yard Skip Hire The 8 yard skip, which we have for hire, is suitable for very big projects such as home extensions. It’s not that different from the 6 yard skip, but it has a larger holding capacity. It has almost 20% more space than the 6 yard skip, and it is just 1.9m by 3.4m in width. This skip can safely hold 100-115 filled black bin bags, or 40 barrow loads of builders waste and materials. If you’re doing a massive home removal, the 8 yard skip would be a perfect choice.

You can also hire this 2.1m by 3.6m wide skip from Norris South-Kensington, for your commercial projects. It works perfectly for large scale site clearance, home removals, and other projects.
- 12 Yard Skip Hire This skip is mainly for industrialized purposes. At Norris South-Kensington, we offer the 12 yard skip for hire for those who need a large skip for their site clearance, office clearance, or commercial projects that involve the disposal of large quantities of waste at a time. Waste Recycling Targets
For some time now, the government and the Environmental Agency have set certain recycling targets. Norris South-Kensington recognizes these targets and they are: The English and Welsh environment is protected and improved upon by the Environmental Agency. There are several government organisations and local authorities they work with to ensure that their targets are met, and that other environmental services they have to offer get to the areas where they are needed. The agency also seeks to better the quality of water, land, and air continuously. They implement efforts to control environmental pollution, and further encourage the conservation of plants, animals, and other natural resources. That’s not all! The agency also puts effort in ensuring that people are up to date in environmental matters, raises waste removal standards and promotes the recycling of household products to significantly reduce the quantity of waste, among other objectives. Get in touch with the Environmental Agency office in your location, or you can find the head office in Bristol Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. Telephone: 08708 506 506. A landfill directive has been released in relation to Government Targets. The directive sets out all the targets to be reached, which will see a decrease of the quantity of waste taken to different landfill spots in the United Kingdom. Starting from the most recent year, these are the targets: The waste taken to landfill spots in the UK should be 35% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2015. The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2013 should be 50% of what was taken in 1995. By 2010, the waste taken to landfill sites around the United Kingdom should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. Furthermore, the following targets were introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000, for waste recovery and to make the landfill directive achievable: 67% of waste should be recovered as of 2015, 45% of waste should be recovered as at 2010, 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005. For the natural recycling targets, you’ll find them published by the government in the Waste Strategy 2000. These targets include: The target projects that, as of 2015, 33% of household waste should either be recycled or composted. By the year 2010, 30% of household waste should be either recycled or it should be composted. The target projects that, as of 2005, 25% of household waste should either be recycled or composted, and every single local authority was to be 30% in the same year. The government, in its quest to reduce waste, for landfill diversion, and to assist local authorities in more recycling, has issued a “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. Clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electrical and electronics, vehicles, wood, clinical waste, and so on, and a few others were included in the list of products to be recycled. At Norris South-Kensington office at South-Kensington, you will get updated if there are any additions to the above targets, especially in recent years.

Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
There a couple of factors that should be taken into consideration when hiring a skip. All these factors are well understood by us at Norris South-Kensington and we are going to make them clear to you. Regional Pricing – the cost of hiring a skip differs from region to region. A skip priced at £50 in London, for example, may be priced at £20 in South-Kensington. How long you want to keep the skip will affect the price of the skip. The longer the period of time you intend to keep it, the more likely you are to pay a higher amount. Not also forgetting that skip hire permits have a duration too. Limitations and Restrictions – skips usually have weight limits even with their sizes. Ask your skip hire service provider if they have restrictions on their skips. You may get fined or sanctioned if you put products in the skip that are not allowed, which is why you need to find out if there are any such products.
Issues with renting skips in South-Kensington
We know at Norris South-Kensington that hiring the right skip can be exhausting- more so if it involves getting a skip hire permit. The following concerns may be attached to skip hiring in South-Kensington: local council laws, double yellow lines, small gardens, narrow paths, congestion zones, limited front space, red routes, and pedestrian only lanes. At the rate at which South-Kensington is growing in population, skip hiring will become more and more difficult. You can avoid the stress of hiring skips and getting permits by hiring our waste disposal service instead.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
The Control of Pollution Act of 1974 was replaced by a new waste licensing system in 1994 to regulate the deposit, recovery, and removal of “controlled waste”. Controlled waste refers to liquid or solid industrial, commercial, and household wastes. People who only do waste disposals from personal gardens were not included in getting the license. To acquire the permit, all applicants need to show they are fit to hold it. Applications for new site ownership need to be accompanied by the Waste Management Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate as proof of “technical competence”.
Those involved in the creation, bringing in, conveyance, storage, treatment or removal of controlled waste have their own duty of care in section 34 of the Act. The Act stated as follows: “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” The special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005 are in charge of controlling the way waste is disposed.
Skip Hire Permits
A skip hire permit is a must have for skips hired for construction projects with the intention of placing them on any public land. Skip hire permits have to be obtained when you need to use land that isn’t your property to place your skip. This land could be a federal highway, government road, a street, or could be owned by a third party. You don’t need a skip hire permit if you have your own land and won’t be intruding on government or third party-owned land. But, if you place a skip in a position that infringes on the privacy of another person not involved in your project, the skip might be removed and seized, or you could even be fined. Depending on your location and the size of the skip involved, £20 should be able to get you a skip hire permit. There are also skip hire permits that cost £60, £80, and even as much as £100. The local council office can provide you with the specifics you need on pricing. However, it’s our duty at Norris South-Kensington to make your skip hire a smooth process. We can get you a skip hire permit and deliver the skip you hire to save you stress. Our online quotes also include skip hire permit costs, which doesn’t matter if you have your own land or space on which to place the skip. We provide skip hire services along with permits that last for up to 14 days. Call us today on 020 8698 8000 and we will provide you with any details you might need on our skip hire permits and waste management services.

At Norris South-Kensington, we not only provide you with skips of different sizes, we also supply tested skips with certificates. Whatever kind of skip we deliver to you, closed or open, it will come with proof of quality and efficiency. At Norris South-Kensington, a lot of different waste types are acceptable to be put in our skips. There are products, however, that are prohibited from being put in our skips. We can provide you with treatment services for materials like that, depending on how safe they are. Medical waste, gas canisters, air conditioning units, heavy duty batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, television sets, refrigerators, and aerosols are prohibited from being in our skips.
Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
There are recycling targets put in place by the Environmental Agency and government. We uphold these set recycling rules at Norris South-Kensington and you can find them below: The Environmental Agency is on a mission to make sure the environment in England and Wales is improved and protected. Some government organisations and local authorities are tasked with the job of meeting their targets and making sure other environmental services available get to needed locations. This agency also works to regularly improve the quality of water, land and air. They work towards the control of pollution in the environment and encourage the protection of natural resources like plants and animals. They don’t stop there either! The body works to educate the general populace on environmental issues to improve waste handling standards, by encouraging more recycling of waste in the household to cut down on overall waste quantity. The agency can be contacted on 08 708 506 506, or by their office in your region. You can also visit their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. A landfill directive was released to address Government Targets. The amount of waste that requires a reduction for landfilling purposes in the UK is specified. It further stated that, from 2007, landfills were to only take untreated waste. Find the targets below, starting from the most recent year: Only 35% of the waste taken in 1995 should be taken for landfill sites in the UK in 2015. The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2013 should be 50% of what was taken in 1995. The quantity of waste allowed to be taken and used for landfills in the UK by 2010 shouldn’t exceed 75% of what was taken in 1995. Furthermore, the following targets were introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000, for waste recovery and to make the landfill directive achievable: 67% of waste should be recovered as of 2015, 45% of waste should be recovered as of 2010, 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005.
Waste Strategy 2000 had published in it, by the government, the natural recycling targets, which are as follows:
33% of household waste has to be composted or recycled in 2015. By 2010, 30% of household waste should be composted or recycled. Household waste that is composted or recycled, in 2015, should be 25%, while the local authorities had a 30% target. The government released a ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” to assist in the recycling and reduction of waste and landfill diversions. Here is list of materials that can be recycled: plastic, electricals and electronics, computers, composting, wood, clinical waste, metal, building materials, batteries, paper, printer, cartridges and a lot of others.
