Skip Hire sizes
At Norris Kensington, we have several sizes of skips for hire. Our skip sizes will fit with whatever you’re planning to do, from office clearing to home removal. If you just need a small skip of 4 Yards to carry out small DIY projects, or as big as a 12 yard skip for industrial purposes, we have the perfect size for you. The skip sizes we have available are 4 Yard, 4 yard, 6 yard, 8 yard, 10 yard, and 12 yard.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire The 4 Yard skip is also available at Norris Kensington for general use. It is just perfect for the outside of your office or home, as it is built to carry a certain amount of waste. It can hold 20–35 black disposable bags at once, and is perfect for DIY projects, garden clearance, and home removals. It’s small, convenient, and easy to use. It is the most economical of all our skips.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire You can find a 4 yard skip for hire as well at Norris Kensington. Its holding capacity is twice that of the 4 Yard skip, and is just 0.90 meters in height. Its width of 1.5m by 2.5m allows space for larger products, such as kitchen and bathroom refits, appliances, electronics, and furniture. It can hold just over 17 full barrow loads of waste and 45 to 50 black waste bags. This is perfect for garden clearance, and many other DIY projects.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire If you wish to carry out house extension projects, or some renovations in your business premises, this is probably the most ideal skip for you to hire. Builders waste like pavers stones, concrete, and soil can be moved with the 6 yard skip, which is available at Norris Kensington. It works excellently for stashing away heavy waste and materials such as soil and stones. With a width of about 1.8m by 2.3m, this skip can take about 75 to 95 black disposal bags, or up to 30 full barrow loads of building waste. You’ve probably noticed this skip a lot in your area.
- 8 Yard Skip Hire If your building project is quite big, the 8 yard skip we provide would be perfect. Similar to the 6 yard skip, the 8 yard skip has space for a lot more waste and refits. It’s around 1.9m by 3.4m wide, but it can take almost 20% more than what the 6 yard skip can. This skip can safely hold 100-115 filled black bin bags, or 40 barrow loads of builders waste and materials. For large home removals, this skip is the ideal choice.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire The 10 yard skip is the one you want if you’re doing a large scale removal or garden clearance. Norris Kensington has the 2.1m by 3.6m wide 10 yard skip available for hire for commercial projects. It is big enough to hold up to 52 barrows filled with commercial waste, or 120–140 large bin bags at a time. It’s ideal for larger building projects, site clearance, or home removals.
- 12 yard Skip Hire If your project is an industrialized one, the 12 yard skip would be a perfect fit. The 12 yard skip we have for hire at Norris Kensington is really big, and is suitable for large commercial projects and office or home clearances that will involve plenty of one time disposals. This skip has a height and a width of 2.5m by 4.0m, giving it enough space for about 150–185 large disposable bags at any time. Over 62 barrow loads of building waste such as slabs, concrete, and soil can safely fit into this skip.

Targets for Waste Recycling
New recycling targets have been set by the government and the Environmental Agency to be reached by every waste management agency. Norris Kensington experts recognize these targets, which are: The agency charged with protecting and improving the English and Welsh environment is the Environmental Agency. The Environmental Agency does not meet its targets or offer other environmental services to areas that need it all alone, because they partner with several other local authorities and organisations to achieve these goals. The Environmental Agency also strives to improve the quality of water, land, and air continuously. The Environmental Agency encourages the conservation of animals, land, and natural resources, and controls environmental pollution by implementing certain efforts. There is more! Among other things, the body enlightens the general populace on environmental issues, promotes the recycling of household products to decrease their piling up in large quantities, and educates on raising the standards of waste removal. Reach out to the Environmental Agency in your area, or you can call 08708 506 506 to contact their headquarters located in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. Government Targets already have a landfill directive issued to this effect. The directive released contains government targets aimed at reducing the amount of waste taken to landfill spots in the UK. The targets, as of the most recent year, include: The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2015 should be 35% of what was taken in 1995. That waste quantity taken to landfill sites be 50% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2015. That the amount of waste taken to landfill spots in the UK by 2010 be only 75% of the amount taken in 1995 To help make the landfill directive achievable and recover waste, the following targets were also introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000: As at 2015, 67% of waste should be recovered, 45% of waste should be recovered as of 2010, while 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005. The Waste Strategy of 2000 contains the natural recycling targets published by the government. Here are the targets: Composting and recycling should be carried out on 33% of household waste as of 2015. By the year 2010, 30% of household waste should be either recycled or it should be composted. By the year 2005, 25% of household waste should either be recycled or it should be composted and 30% was set for each local authority in 2005. The government has issued a grant to help local authorities in more recycling, reducing waste, and for landfill diversion, known as the ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. Recyclable materials were listed, which include: wood, vehicles, clinical waste, building materials, composting, printer cartridges, batteries, paper, computers, plastic, glass, furniture, oil, metal, electronic and electricals, and so on. To be up to date on any new entry in the targets, especially in recent years, visit the Norris Kensington office at Kensington.

Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
Skip hire pricing factors need to be well considered before hiring a skip. We understand all of these factors on skip hiring pricing at Norris Kensington, and we have taken it upon ourselves to briefly help you understand as well. Regional Pricing – hiring a skip will cost something different in different regions. A skip priced at £50 in London, for example, may be priced at £20 in Kensington. Time duration on the hire is another factor that affects pricing, when you want to keep a skip for a long period of time, you’ll have to pay more. Remembering as well that skip hire permits have a time frame and expiry dates. Limitations and Restrictions – no matter the size of a skip, it will still have a weight limit. Ask your skip hire service provider if they have restrictions on their skips. Find out what products aren’t allowed in the skip and follow the restrictions, to avoid being sanctioned or fined.
Issues with renting skips in Kensington
At Norris Kensington, we understand that getting the perfect skip to hire can be a herculean task – especially with the difficulties that comes with getting a skip hire permit. Issues to be considered when hiring a skip in Kensington are local council laws, red routes, double yellow lines, narrow paths, congestion zones, small front space, pedestrian only lanes and red routes. With the rising population in Kensington, skip hiring will soon be a more challenging feat. You can avoid the stress of hiring skips and getting permits by hiring our waste disposal service instead.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
In 1994, another waste licensing system replaced the 1974 Control of Pollution Act for “controlled waste” regulation – deposit, recovery and removal. Controlled waste refers to liquid or solid industrial, commercial, and household wastes. Personal garden waste disposal does not require the use of the license. To be granted the license, whoever is applying is required to confirm their ability to hold it. If an applicant wishes to own a new site, they have to show how “technically competent” they are by possessing the (WAMITAB) certificate, this is the the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board.
Those involved in the creation, bringing in, conveyance, storage, treatment or removal of controlled waste have their own duty of care in section 34 of the Act. It was stated in the Act that “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” How waste is disposed of is controlled by special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005.
Skip Hire Permits
A skip hire permit is a must have for skips hired for construction projects with the intention of placing them on any public land. In regards to the land or space you would be placing the skip on that isn’t yours, you need a skip hire permit. This land could be a federal highway, government road, a street, or could be owned by a third party. However, if you have a piece of land or property to place the skip in, and you are sure that it won’t intrude on council land or someone else’s property, then you won’t have to get a skip permit. You risk being fined or having the skip removed and seized if you do not ensure your skip doesn’t cross out of your own land and into someone’s space. With £20, you can get a skip hire permit, but charges may differ because of the skip size or council who issue the permit. There are also skip hire permits that cost £60, £80, and even as much as £100. Details on skip hire costs can be requested from the local council office. At Norris Kensington we feel duty bound to ensuring you hire a skip without stress. You don’t need the hassle involved with getting a skip hire permit because we can get it for you as we deliver your choice of skip. When you request an online quote, we include the cost of getting a permit, which will not be necessary if you have land of your own to place the skip in. We can get skip hire services along with permits that have up to 14 day validity. We can be reached today on 020 8698 8000 if you want to know more about skip hire permits and other services we have in place for you.

Items such as medical waste, aerosols, electronic appliances, gas canisters, heavy duty batteries, television sets, and fluorescent light bulbs are not allowed in our skips.
Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
A number of targets for recycling were set by the Environmental Agency and government. We at Norris Kensington acknowledge these targets and here they are: The Environmental Agency is on a mission to make sure the environment in England and Wales is improved and protected. There are several government organisations and local authorities they work with to ensure that their targets are met, and other environmental services they have to offer get to areas where they are needed. The aim of the agency is also to make sure the quality of land, air and water gets better constantly. They implement steps that aim to control pollution in the environment, encouraging efforts towards preserving natural resources as well. It doesn’t end there! The body educates the public on environmental matters, like better waste removal standards, by promoting the recycling of household waste to reduce how much waste they have. The agency can be contacted on 08 708 506 506, or by their office in your region. You can also visit their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. A landfill directive was released to address Government Targets. It states how much the quantity of waste need to be lowered for the purpose of landfills in certain areas of the UK. It stated also that from 2007, landfills should only accept treated waste. Find the targets below, starting from the most recent year: The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2015 should be 35% of what was taken in 1995. In 2013, only 50% of the waste collected for filling UK landfill sites in 1995 should be collected. No more that 75% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2010 Also added by the Waste Strategy 2000 were the following targets, to ensure 75% waste recovery and the achievement of the landfill directive, the following waste percentages have to be recovered: 67% in 2015, 45% in 2010 and 40% in 2005.
Natural recycling targets were published by the government in Waste Strategy 2000 and are:
33% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2015. Household waste that is composted or recycled in 2010 should be at 30%. No less than 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2005, local authorities were set at 30% for the same year. To help the local authorities recycle more and reduce waste and for landfill diversions, a “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” was released by the government. A list of materials that can be recycled include: wood, vehicles, composting, clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electricals and electronics, computers, and a few others.
