Skip Hire sizes
There are a wide range of skip sizes for hire here at Norris Clerkenwell. Our skip sizes will fit with whatever you’re planning to do, from office clearing to home removal. Whether you need a skip size of 2 yards or a skip size of 12, we have something for you. Our skips are in sizes 2 yard, 4 yard, 6 yard, 8 yard, 10 yard, and 12 yard.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire Norris Clerkenwell also hires out 4 yard skips. The 4 yard skip is two times bigger in holding space than the 2 yard skip, and is 0.90meters long. It has more space for bigger materials, including electronic appliances, kitchen and bathroom refits, and even furniture, because it has a longer width of 1.5m by 2.5m. It can hold just over 17 full barrow loads of waste and 45 to 50 black waste bags. It will fit well into your garden clearance, or do-it-yourself project plan.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire This skip is ideal if you intend to do a home extension project or renovations on your office premises. Builders waste like pavers stones, concrete, and soil can be moved with the 6 yard skip, which is available at Norris Clerkenwell. It is an ideal storage option for materials and waste like stones and soil. With a width of about 1.8m by 2.3m, this skip can take about 75 to 95 black disposal bags, or up to 30 full barrow loads of building waste. This is pretty much the most popular skip you will find in your area.
- 8 Yard Skip Hire The 8 yard skip, which we have for hire, is suitable for very big projects such as home extensions. The only difference between the 8 yard and 6 yard skip is that it can contain more items. It’s around 1.9m by 3.4m wide, but it can take almost 20% more than what the 6 yard skip can. 100-115 black disposable bags can fit well into the 8 yard skip, as can 40 barrow loads of soil, concrete, and other builders waste. For large home removals, this skip is the ideal choice.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire The 10 yard skip is the one you want if you’re doing a large scale removal or garden clearance. This skip is 2.1m by 3.6m wide, and can be used for commercial projects, it can be hired at Norris Clerkenwell. This skip has enough room for about 120–140 big waste bags, or 52 full barrow loads of commercial waste at any time. This skip serves well when used for big building projects and home removals.
- 12 Yard Skip Hire This skip is mainly for industrialized purposes. The 12 yard skip we have for hire at Norris Clerkenwell is really big, and is suitable for large commercial projects and office or home clearances that will involve plenty of one time disposals. With a width of 2.5m by 4.0m, this skip is also long enough to contain 150–185 black disposable bags at any time. It also has enough space for more than 62 barrow loads of building waste such as slabs, soil, and pavers stones.

The waste taken to landfill spots in the UK should be 50% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2013. The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2010 should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. Also, some targets were introduced for waste recovery, and to help make the landfill directive achievable by the Waste Strategy 2000: 67% of waste should be recovered as of 2015, 45% of waste should be recovered as at 2010, 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005. Contained in the Waste Strategy 2000 are the natural recycling targets published by the government. Composting and recycling should be carried out on 30% of household waste as at 2010. By the year 2005, 25% of household waste should either be recycled or it should be composted and 30% was set for each local authority in 2005. To assist local authorities in recycling more waste, reducing waste, and for landfill diversion, the government issued a ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
When hiring a skip, some factors will be important and need to be thought about and considered properly. At Norris Clerkenwell, we understand these factors and will briefly explain them to you. Regional Pricing – the cost of hiring a skip differs from region to region. A skip that would cost you £50 in London, for instance, may cost you less in Clerkenwell. The length of time you want the skip for will also affect its pricing; the longer you want it for, the higher the cost. Also bearing in mind that skip hire permits only last for a set period of time as well. Limitations and Restrictions – you can’t always put a huge amount of weight in a skip just because it looks big. Make enquiries from your service provider on the limitations they might have. Some items are prohibited from being put in the skips, find out what they are, and obey the restrictions so you don’t get a fine or sanction.
Issues with renting skips in Clerkenwell
At Norris Clerkenwell, we understand that getting the perfect skip to hire can be a herculean task – especially with the difficulties that comes with getting a skip hire permit. Issues to be considered when hiring a skip in Clerkenwell are local council laws, red routes, double yellow lines, narrow paths, congestion zones, small front space, pedestrian only lanes and red routes. With the rising population in Clerkenwell, skip hiring will soon be a more challenging feat. Alternative to kip hiring and getting a hire permit, our waste disposal services are available for your use.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
A new waste licensing system was put in place in 1994 to replace the Control of Pollution Act of 1974 on the regulation of deposits, recovery, and removal of “controlled waste”. Any industrial, commercial, or household waste in solid or liquid form is referred to as controlled waste. Personal garden waste disposal does not require the use of the license. Proof of fitness to hold the license determines if it will be granted. If an applicant wishes to own a new site, they have to show how “technically competent” they are by possessing the (WAMITAB) certificate, this is the the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board.
Those involved in the creation, bringing in, conveyance, storage, treatment or removal of controlled waste have their own duty of care in section 34 of the Act. It was stated in the Act that “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” There are also the special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005, that regulates how waste should be disposed of.
Skip Hire Permits
If you’re going to place a skip you hired for a construction project on public land, you need a skip hire permit. Skip hire permits are required when you intend to use a piece of land you don’t own to place the skip. The land in question may be that of a third party, a street, a government road, or a federal highway. However, if you have a piece of land or property to place the skip in, and you are sure that it won’t intrude on council land or someone else’s property, then you won’t have to get a skip permit. Your skip could be removed and seized, however, if it extends into land that isn’t yours or that of those involved in your project, you even be fined. Getting a skip hire permit can cost as low as £20, based on the skip size and council you have to get the permit from. There are skip hire permits that may cost as much as £60, £80, and up to £100 sometimes. You can contact the council office to find out more about the pricing if you wish. We want to ensure you have a much easier skip hire process at Norris Clerkenwell. You don’t need the hassle involved with getting a skip hire permit because we can get it for you as we deliver your choice of skip. Our online quotes also include skip hire permit costs, which doesn’t matter if you have your own land or space on which to place the skip. The permits we provide with skip hire services last as long as 14 days. We are always available on 020 8698 8000 to provide you with details on skip hire and other waste disposal services we have.

Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
Recycling targets were created by the Environmental Agency and government some time ago. We at Norris Clerkenwell acknowledge these targets and here they are: The aim of the Environmental Agency is to see to the improvement and protection of the environment in England and Wales. There are several government organisations and local authorities they work with to ensure that their targets are met, and other environmental services they have to offer get to areas where they are needed. The Environmental Agency also strives to improve the quality of water, land, and air continuously. They work towards the control of pollution in the environment and encourage the protection of natural resources like plants and animals. That’s not all! The body also enlightens the general populace on issues regarding the environment, improving waste removal standards, encouraging the recycling of household products to reduce the quantity of waste, and lots more. The agency can be contacted on 08 708 506 506, or by their office in your region. You can also visit their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. To handle Government Targets, a landfill directive was issued. The amount of waste that requires a reduction for landfilling purposes in the UK is specified. It added as well that landfills from 2007 should only take waste that has been treated. The targets are as follows from the most recent year: Only 35% of the waste taken in 1995 should be taken for landfill sites in the UK in 2015. The quantity of waste allowed to be taken and used for landfills in the UK by 2013 shouldn’t exceed 50% of what was taken in 1995. No more that 75% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2010 Furthermore, the following targets were introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000, for waste recovery and to make the landfill directive achievable: 67% of waste should be recovered as of 2015, 45% of waste should be recovered as of 2010, 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005.
The targets for natural recycling were published in the Waste Strategy 2000 by the government. They include:
By 2015, 33% of household waste should be composted or recycled. 30% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2010. No less than 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2005, local authorities were set at 30% for the same year. The government issued a ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” to help local authorities recycle more, reduce waste, and for landfill diversions. A list of materials that can be recycled include: wood, vehicles, composting, clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electricals and electronics, computers, and a few others.
