Skip Hire sizes
At Norris Norwood-Green, we have several sizes of skips for hire. It doesn’t matter if it is an office clearing or home removal you have planned, we have the right skip sizes for everything. If you just need a small skip of 2 yards to carry out small DIY projects, or as big as a 12 yard skip for industrial purposes, we have the perfect size for you. We have skip sizes in 2 yard, 4 yard, 6 yard, 8 yard, 10 yard, and 12 yard.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire The 4 yard skip is also available for hire at Norris Norwood-Green. The 4 yard skip is two times bigger in holding space than the 2 yard skip, and is 0.90meters long. Its width of 1.5m by 2.5m allows space for larger products, such as kitchen and bathroom refits, appliances, electronics, and furniture. It is big enough to hold 45 to 50 black waste bags, and more than 17 barrow loads of waste. If you are thinking of DIY projects or garden clearance, this would be a splendid choice.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire The 6 yard skip is perfect for home extension projects and office premises renovations. The 6 yard skip is suitable for carrying builders waste and is available at Norris Norwood-Green. If you want to store heavy waste and bulky materials like soil or stones, the 6 yard skip is just perfect. With a width of about 1.8m by 2.3m, this skip can take about 75 to 95 black disposal bags, or up to 30 full barrow loads of building waste. This skip is probably the most used around your area.
- 8 Yard Skip Hire If your building project is quite big, the 8 yard skip we provide would be perfect. It’s similar to the 6 yard builders skip, but it can contain much more waste and refits. The 8 yard skip is 1.9m by 3.4m wide, but surpasses the 6 yard skip in holding space by almost 20%. This skip can safely hold 100-115 filled black bin bags, or 40 barrow loads of builders waste and materials. If you’re doing a massive home removal, the 8 yard skip would be a perfect choice.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire If you’re looking for a much bigger skip for a large garden clearance or home removal, then you should check out the 10 yard skip. If you’re handling a commercial project, the 2.1m by 3.6m wide skip is available for hire at Norris Norwood-Green. It is big enough to hold up to 52 barrows filled with commercial waste, or 120–140 large bin bags at a time. If you’re handling a big building project or home removal, this skip would be the best choice.
- 12 Yard Skip Hire This is more like a small industrial skip. The 12 yard skip we have for hire at Norris Norwood-Green is really big, and is suitable for large commercial projects and office or home clearances that will involve plenty of one time disposals. 2.5m by 4.0m in width, this skip has is also big enough in height to contain between 150-185 black disposal bags at once. It also has enough space for more than 62 barrow loads of building waste such as slabs, soil, and pavers stones.

Waste Recycling Targets
The government and the Environmental Agency have set new targets to be reached by all recycling agencies. Norris Norwood-Green experts recognize these targets, which are: The Environmental Agency’s duty is to protect and better the environment of England and Wales. There are several government organisations and local authorities they work with to ensure that their targets are met, and that other environmental services they have to offer get to the areas where they are needed. The Environmental Agency also strives to improve the quality of water, land, and air continuously. The agency strives to control environmental pollution and promote the conservation of animals, land, and natural resources. It doesn’t end there! The agency also puts effort in ensuring that people are up to date in environmental matters, raises waste removal standards and promotes the recycling of household products to significantly reduce the quantity of waste, among other objectives. You can contact the Environmental Agency office in your region, or visit the head office in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. Telephone: 08708 506 506. Government Targets already have a landfill directive issued to this effect. The directive sets out all the targets to be reached, which will see a decrease of the quantity of waste taken to different landfill spots in the United Kingdom. Starting from the most recent year, these are the targets: The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2015 should be 35% of what was taken in 1995. The waste taken to landfill spots in the UK should be 50% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2013. The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2010 should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. To help make the landfill directive achievable and recover waste, the following targets were also introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000: As at 2015, 67% of waste should be recovered, 45% of waste should be recovered as of 2010, while 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005. The Waste Strategy of 2000 contains the natural recycling targets published by the government. These targets include: By the year 2015, 33% of household waste should either be recycled or it should be composted. By 2010, 30% of household waste should be composted or recycled. 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled, and local authorities were set at 30% both by 2005. The government has issued a grant to help local authorities in more recycling, reducing waste, and for landfill diversion, known as the ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. Materials like batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electrical and electronics, vehicles, wood, clinical waste, building materials, and so on, have been listed as recyclable. To be up to date on any new entry in the targets, especially in recent years, visit the Norris Norwood-Green office at Norwood-Green.

Issues with renting skips in Norwood-Green
At Norris Norwood-Green, we understand that getting the perfect skip to hire can be a herculean task – especially with the difficulties that comes with getting a skip hire permit. The following concerns may be attached to skip hiring in Norwood-Green: local council laws, double yellow lines, small gardens, narrow paths, congestion zones, limited front space, red routes, and pedestrian only lanes. We are also aware of the increasing population in Norwood-Green, which will mean increased difficulty in skip hiring in the near future. Our waste management services are readily available if you wish to skip the whole task of skip hiring.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
The regulation of waste deposits, and the recovery and removal of “controlled waste” is handled by the waste licensing system that was put in place in 1994, replacing the 1974 Control of Pollution Act. Liquid or solid waste from industrial, commercial, and household processes are called controlled wastes. However, people who are just disposing of waste from their personal garden were exempted from the need of the license. To acquire the permit, all applicants need to show they are fit to hold it. “Technical competence” is something an applicant for new site ownership needs to show by having the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate .
Section 34 of the act includes the duty of care for people who are part of creating, bringing in, conveying, storing, treating, and removing controlled waste. According to the Act, “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” Waste disposal regulation is handled by special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005.
Skip Hire Permits
Do you want to hire a skip for a construction project that will involve placing it on public land? Then you will need a skip hire permit. Skip hire permits have to be obtained when you need to use land that isn’t your property to place your skip. These lands include federal highways and government roads, third party owned lands, and land along streets. You can use your own land or space without a skip hire permit if you have it, only ensuring you don’t cross into land that isn’t yours. You risk being fined or having the skip removed and seized if you do not ensure your skip doesn’t cross out of your own land and into someone’s space. Getting a skip hire permit can cost as low as £20, based on the skip size and council you have to get the permit from. There are also skip hire permits for a lot more than £20, including £60, £80 and £100. Any questions you have on pricing can be answered at the local council office. We make it our business at Norris Norwood-Green to make skip hiring easy for you. We also provide skip hire permit procurement along with skip delivery to make the whole process stress free. We include the cost of getting ski hire permits in our online quotes when you request them, which can be removed if you already have land or a place on which to put the skip. The permits we provide with skip hire services last as long as 14 days. We are always available on 020 8698 8000 to provide you with details on skip hire and other waste disposal services we have.

Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
The Environmental Agency and government have been setting recycling targets for some time now. We recognize these recycling targets at Norris Norwood-Green and here they are: The mission of the Environmental Agency is to ensure the improvement and protection of the environment in England and Wales. There are several government organisations and local authorities they work with to ensure that their targets are met, and other environmental services they have to offer get to areas where they are needed. The agency aspires to ensure regular improvements in the quality of land, air and water as well. They work towards the control of pollution in the environment and encourage the protection of natural resources like plants and animals. It doesn’t end there! The body educates the public on environmental matters, like better waste removal standards, by promoting the recycling of household waste to reduce how much waste they have. You can contact the Environmental Agency office in your region, or visit the head office in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. Telephone: 08708 506 506. As for Government Targets, a landfill directive was released. It gives a recommended target on how much the amount of waste needs to be reduced for landfilling spots in the United Kingdom. It further stated that, from 2007, landfills were to only take untreated waste. From the most recent year, the targets are the following: No more that 35% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2015. Only 50% of the waste taken in 1995 should be taken for landfill sites in the UK in 2013. No more that 75% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2010 Also added by the Waste Strategy 2000 were the following targets, to ensure 75% waste recovery and the achievement of the landfill directive, the following waste percentages have to be recovered: 67% in 2015, 45% in 2010 and 40% in 2005.
The targets for natural recycling were published in the Waste Strategy 2000 by the government. They include:
33% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2015. Household waste that is composted or recycled in 2010 should be at 30%. 25% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2005, even though local authorities had a 30% target in the same year. To help the local authorities recycle more and reduce waste and for landfill diversions, a “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” was released by the government. Wood, vehicles, composting, clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electricals and electronics, computers, and more are recyclable.
