Skip Hire sizes
There are a wide range of skip sizes for hire here at Norris Finchley. Home removal or office, we have whatever skip size you’ll need. If you need a small skip size like a 2 yard, or a big one of 12 yards, either way we have you covered. The other sizes we have include: the 2 Yard Skip, 4 Yard Skip, 6 Yard Skip, 8 Yard Skip, 10 Yard Skip, and the 12 Yard Skip.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire At Norris Finchley, we also have the 4 yard skip for hire. Its holding capacity is twice that of the 2 yard skip, and is just 0.90 meters in height. It has more space for bigger materials, including electronic appliances, kitchen and bathroom refits, and even furniture, because it has a longer width of 1.5m by 2.5m. 45 to 50 black waste bags, and a little over 17 full barrow loads of waste, can fit into it. If you are thinking of DIY projects or garden clearance, this would be a splendid choice.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire The 6 yard skip is perfect for home extension projects and office premises renovations. The 6 yard skip may be used to carry builders waste like soil and pavers stones, and is provided at Norris Finchley. It works excellently for stashing away heavy waste and materials such as soil and stones. It has enough space for 75 to 95 black bin bags, or 30 full barrow loads of builders waste due to its width of 1.8m by 2.3m. This is pretty much the most popular skip you will find in your area.
- 8 Yard Skip Hire We also hire out 8 yard skips, which are best used for extensive projects. The only difference between the 8 yard and 6 yard skip is that it can contain more items. It’s around 1.9m by 3.4m wide, but it can take almost 20% more than what the 6 yard skip can. This skip can contain 100-115 full black waste bags with any issues, or 40 full barrow loads of slabs, soil, bricks and concrete. If you’re doing a massive home removal, the 8 yard skip would be a perfect choice.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire This skip works perfectly in large garden clearance and home removals. Available for hire at Norris Finchley, the 2.1m by 3.6m wide skip is ideal for commercial projects. This skip has enough room for about 120–140 big waste bags, or 52 full barrow loads of commercial waste at any time. For larger building projects, home removals, and garden or site clearance, this is the skip to use.
- 12 Yard Skip Hire The 12 yard skip is ideal for industrialized projects. We have the 12 yard skip for hire here at Norris Finchley for any large projects, like office or site clearance, and commercial projects that have large routine waste disposal needs. This skip is around 2.5m by 4.0m wide, with a height that can hold as much as 150-185 black bin bags of waste at once. Over 62 barrow loads of building waste such as slabs, concrete, and soil can safely fit into this skip.

New recycling targets have been set by the government and the Environmental Agency to be reached by every waste management agency. We at Norris Finchley acknowledge these targets and here they are: The mission of the Environmental Agency is to ensure the improvement and protection of the environment in England and Wales. There are several government organisations and local authorities they work with to ensure that their targets are met, and that other environmental services they have to offer get to the areas where they are needed. The quality of water, air, and land is continuously improved by the Environmental Agency. The Environmental Agency encourages the conservation of animals, land, and natural resources, and controls environmental pollution by implementing certain efforts. That’s not all! The Environmental Agency is determined to educate the people on anything to do with the environment, improve waste disposal standards, and improve the recycling of household items in order to reduce their quantity. With the telephone number – 08708 506 506, you can contact the Environmental Agency head office in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD, or contact their office in your region. Government Targets already have a landfill directive issued to this effect. The directive sets out all the targets to be reached, which will see a decrease of the quantity of waste taken to different landfill spots in the United Kingdom. The target is set to take effect from the most recent year and they are: Waste quantity taken to landfill sites should be 35% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2015. The waste taken to landfill spots in the UK should be 50% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2013. That the amount of waste taken to landfill spots in the UK by 2010 be only 75% of the amount taken in 1995 To help make the landfill directive achievable and recover waste, the following targets were also introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000: 40% of waste as at 2005 should be recovered, 45% of waste should be recovered by 2010, while as of 2015, 67% of waste should be recovered. The government published the natural recycling targets by the Waste Strategy 2000. Below are the targets: The target projects that, as of 2015, 33% of household waste should either be recycled or composted. By the year 2010, 30% of household waste should be either recycled or it should be composted. By the year 2005, 25% of household waste should either be recycled or it should be composted and 30% was set for each local authority in 2005. Local authorities can now be assisted to do more recycling through the government issued “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” which will also help reduce waste and landfill diversion. Here is a list of recyclable materials: computers, printer cartridges, glass, oil, electrical and electronics, furniture, batteries, paper, vehicles, clinical waste, metal, and a variety of others. At Norris Finchley office at Finchley, you will get updated if there are any additions to the above targets, especially in recent years.

Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
There a couple of factors that should be taken into consideration when hiring a skip. We at Norris Finchley understand these skip hire pricing factors, and we have decided to give you a brief explanation of each of them. Regional Pricing – hiring a skip will cost something different in different regions. You might get a skip at £50 in London, for instance, and get the same skip size for £20 in Finchley. The longer you need to hold on to a skip, the more expensive the skip will be, because pricing is affected by time as well. Remembering as well that skip hire permits have a time frame and expiry dates. Limitations and Restrictions – every skip can only take a certain amount of weight regardless of their size. You need to know about what limitations or restrictions your skip hire service provider may have. Also, make enquiries about products that shouldn’t be put in it. Obey these restrictions to avoid any sanctions or fines.
Issues with renting skips in Finchley
The process of hiring a skip is often difficult, especially if you want to get a skip hire permit as well. We know about all of these difficulties at Norris Finchley. Narrow paths, local council laws, small gardens, double yellow lines, red routes, pedestrian only lanes, congestion zones, limited space in front, and narrow paths are the issues which usually come up with skip renting in Finchley. We know that the growing population in Finchley will mean a more difficult skip hiring process soon. Alternative to kip hiring and getting a hire permit, our waste disposal services are available for your use.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
In 1994, another waste licensing system replaced the 1974 Control of Pollution Act for “controlled waste” regulation – deposit, recovery and removal. Controlled wastes are wastes from industrial, commercial, and household processes in solid or liquid form. People who only do waste disposals from personal gardens were not included in getting the license. Anyone applying for the license has to show proof that they can handle it. Anyone applying to own a new site has to have the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate, which proves they are “technically competent”.
In section 34 of the act, the duty of care for all those who make, bring in, move, treat, store or remove controlled waste is available. The following was stated in the Act: “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” Waste disposal regulation is handled by special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005.
Skip Hire Permits
You need a skip hire permit if you want to hire a skip for a construction project and will have to place it on public land. Skip hire permits are necessary for situations where you need to place a skip on a piece of land or in a space that isn’t yours. Federal highways, streets, government roads, and land owned by any third party are those that require skip hire permits. If you have land or property you intend to used, you don’t need a skip hire permit, as long as it won’t intrude on land that isn’t yours. If you happen to cross into someone else’s land who isn’t a part of your project, or invade another person’s privacy with the skip, it could be seized or you could be fined. Depending on your location and the size of the skip involved, £20 should be able to get you a skip hire permit. Some skip hire permits cost higher than £20, possibly £60, £80, and up to £100. Any questions you have on pricing can be answered at the local council office. We make it our business at Norris Finchley to make skip hiring easy for you. You don’t need the hassle involved with getting a skip hire permit because we can get it for you as we deliver your choice of skip. The cost of getting a skip hire permit is often added to the online quote you request , although this won’t matter if you have space or land for keeping the skip. The permits we have available alongside our skip hire services can serve for up to 14 days. Call us today on 020 8698 8000 and we will provide you with any details you might need on our skip hire permits and waste management services.

Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
For a while now, there have been recycling targets set by the Environmental Agency and government. We uphold these set recycling rules at Norris Finchley and you can find them below: The mission of the Environmental Agency is to ensure the improvement and protection of the environment in England and Wales. Many government organisations and local authorities are in place to ensure recycling targets are met, and that areas needing environmental services receive the services they have available. The agency aspires to ensure regular improvements in the quality of land, air and water as well. They work towards the control of pollution in the environment and encourage the protection of natural resources like plants and animals. It doesn’t end there! The body educates the public on environmental matters, like better waste removal standards, by promoting the recycling of household waste to reduce how much waste they have. You can reach the Environmental agency at their office in your region, their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD, or call them on 08 708 506 506. As for Government Targets, a landfill directive was released. It gives a recommended target on how much the amount of waste needs to be reduced for landfilling spots in the United Kingdom. It stated also that from 2007, landfills should only accept treated waste. From the most recent year, the targets are the following: No more that 35% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2015. The quantity of waste allowed to be taken and used for landfills in the UK by 2013 shouldn’t exceed 50% of what was taken in 1995. The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2010 should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. Also added by the Waste Strategy 2000 were the following targets, to ensure 75% waste recovery and the achievement of the landfill directive, the following waste percentages have to be recovered: 67% in 2015, 45% in 2010 and 40% in 2005.
The government published, in the Waste Strategy 2000, the following natural recycling targets:
Household waste that is composted or recycled in 2015 should make up 33% of total waste. By 2010, 30% of household waste should be composted or recycled. No less than 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2005, local authorities were set at 30% for the same year. A ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” was issued by the government to assist local authorities in more recycling, reduction of waste, and landfill diversions. A list of materials that can be recycled include: wood, vehicles, composting, clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electricals and electronics, computers, and a few others.
