That the amount of waste taken to landfill spots in the UK by 2013 be only 50% of the amount taken in 1995. The waste taken to landfill spots in the UK should be 75% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2010. To help make the landfill directive achievable and recover waste, the following targets were also introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000: 67% of waste should be recovered as of 2015, 45% of waste should be recovered as at 2010, 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005. Contained in the Waste Strategy 2000 are the natural recycling targets published by the government. By 2005, 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled, while that of each local authority was 30% as in the same year. The government, in its quest to reduce waste, for landfill diversion, and to assist local authorities in more recycling, has issued a “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
When hiring a skip, some factors will be important and need to be thought about and considered properly. All these factors are well understood by us at Norris Thurnham and we are going to make them clear to you. Regional Pricing – the cost of hiring a skip differs from region to region. You might get a skip at £50 in London, for instance, and get the same skip size for £20 in Thurnham. How long you want to keep the skip will affect the price of the skip. The longer the period of time you intend to keep it, the more likely you are to pay a higher amount. Also bearing in mind that skip hire permits only last for a set period of time as well. Limitations and Restrictions – different skip sizes also have different weight limits. Ask your skip hire service provider if they have restrictions on their skips. You may get fined or sanctioned if you put products in the skip that are not allowed, which is why you need to find out if there are any such products.
Issues with renting skips in Thurnham
We know at Norris Thurnham that hiring the right skip can be exhausting- more so if it involves getting a skip hire permit. Renting a skip in Thurnham may come with issues such as local council laws, pedestrian only lanes, narrow paths, red routes, small parking space, congestion zones, small gardens, and double yellow lines. We know that the population in Thurnham is increasing on a daily basis, meaning getting a space to place a skip will soon become more difficult. However, you can make use of our rubbish removal services, instead of worrying about renting a skip and hustling for a skip hire permit.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
The regulation of waste deposits, and the recovery and removal of “controlled waste” is handled by the waste licensing system that was put in place in 1994, replacing the 1974 Control of Pollution Act. Controlled waste refers to liquid or solid industrial, commercial, and household wastes. However, people who are just disposing of waste from their personal garden were exempted from the need of the license. In order to have the license, the person applying has to show that they are fit to hold it. Anyone applying to own a new site has to have the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate, which proves they are “technically competent”.
The duty of care for people who manage creating, bringing in, movement, storing, treating and removing controlled waste is specified in section 34 of the act. The Act stated as follows: “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” How waste is disposed of is controlled by special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005.
Skip Hire Permits
To place a skip for a construction project on any public land, you need a skip hire permit. Skip hire permits have to be obtained when you need to use land that isn’t your property to place your skip. The land in question may be that of a third party, a street, a government road, or a federal highway. However, if you have a piece of land or property to place the skip in, and you are sure that it won’t intrude on council land or someone else’s property, then you won’t have to get a skip permit. You risk being fined or having the skip removed and seized if you do not ensure your skip doesn’t cross out of your own land and into someone’s space. You can get a skip hire permit for £20, although the skip size and issuing council would also affect the cost. Some skip hire permits cost higher than £20, possibly £60, £80, and up to £100. The local council office can provide you with the specifics you need on pricing. At Norris Thurnham, we consider it our responsibility to ease your skip hire process. So why go through the stress of getting a skip hire permit when we can get it for you, while we deliver the skip you require? The cost of getting a skip hire permit is often added to the online quote you request , although this won’t matter if you have space or land for keeping the skip. Our skip hire service can come with skip hire permits that are valid for 14 days. Contact us today on 020 8698 8000 to find out more about skip hire permits and other services we have made available for you.
Tested skips with certificate
If you’re using a skip hire service for the first time, you might be worried about how safe and effective the skip will be during use. At Norris Thurnham, we make sure you get the skip size you want, and make sure they are tested with certificates. Therefore, if you need a closed or open skip, you can rely on us to make it available to you with proof of efficiency and quality. We can be reached as well on 020 8698 8000, and our experts will provide any details you need. You can also come by our Thurnham office instead and the tested skip you want will be provided with certificate.
We allow many different kinds of waste in our skips at Norris Thurnham. But there are restrictions on certain products, and they are not allowed in our skips. If it is safe enough, we can take those items from you and get them treated. These restricted items are automotive oils and fluids, medical waste, car tyres, heavy duty batteries, gas canisters, television sets, air conditioning units, refrigerators, aerosols, and fluorescent light bulbs.
Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
There are recycling targets put in place by the Environmental Agency and government. We at Norris Thurnham acknowledge these targets and here they are: The Environmental Agency aims to make sure the Englands’ and Wales’ environment can improve and is protected. Many government organisations and local authorities are in place to ensure recycling targets are met, and that areas needing environmental services receive the services they have available. This agency also works to regularly improve the quality of water, land and air. They set up systems to regulate environmental pollution, and also promote the preservation of plants, animals and other natural resources. That isn’t even all! The body provides public education on environmental matters as well, supporting the recycling of household waste to reduce the quantity. The agency can be contacted on 08 708 506 506, or by their office in your region. You can also visit their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. A landfill directive was released because of Government Targets. It states that targets for lowering the quantity of waste taken to landfill spots in the United Kingdom. It further stated that, from 2007, landfills were to only take untreated waste. Starting from the most recent year, these are the targets: The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2015 should be 35% of what was taken in 1995. The quantity of waste allowed to be taken and used for landfills in the UK by 2013 shouldn’t exceed 50% of what was taken in 1995. No more that 75% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2010 Also added by the Waste Strategy 2000 were the following targets, to ensure 75% waste recovery and the achievement of the landfill directive, the following waste percentages have to be recovered: 67% in 2015, 45% in 2010 and 40% in 2005.
The government published, in the Waste Strategy 2000, the following natural recycling targets:
No less than 33% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2015. 30% of household waste has to be composted or recycled in 2010. Household waste that is composted or recycled, in 2015, should be 25%, while the local authorities had a 30% target. A ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” was set up by the government to move the efforts of the local authorities towards more recycling and reduction of waste, and for landfill diversion. The following materials can be recycled: wood, clinical waste, metal, building materials, batteries, paper, printer, cartridges, plastic, electricals and electronics, computers, composting, and various others.
