Skip Hire Rules and regulations
A new waste licensing system was put in place in 1994 to replace the Control of Pollution Act of 1974 on the regulation of deposits, recovery, and removal of “controlled waste”. Liquid or solid waste from industrial, commercial, and household processes are called controlled wastes. The license is not needed by those who only dispose of waste from their personal gardens. To be granted the license, whoever is applying is required to confirm their ability to hold it. Applications for new site ownership need to be accompanied by the Waste Management Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate as proof of “technical competence”.
In section 34 of the act, the duty of care for all those who make, bring in, move, treat, store or remove controlled waste is available. The Act stated as follows: “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” How waste is disposed of is controlled by special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005.
Skip Hire Permits
A skip hire permit is a must have for skips hired for construction projects with the intention of placing them on any public land. Skip hire permits are required when you intend to use a piece of land you don’t own to place the skip. These lands include federal highways and government roads, third party owned lands, and land along streets. You don’t need a skip hire permit if you have your own land and won’t be intruding on government or third party-owned land. Your skip could be removed and seized, however, if it extends into land that isn’t yours or that of those involved in your project, you even be fined. Getting a skip hire permit can cost as low as £20, based on the skip size and council you have to get the permit from. There are more expensive skip hire permits; for about £60, £80 and £100. The local council office can provide you with the specifics you need on pricing. At Norris Boughton-Malherbe we feel duty bound to ensuring you hire a skip without stress. We can get you a skip hire permit and deliver the skip you hire to save you stress. The cost of getting a skip hire permit is often added to the online quote you request , although this won’t matter if you have space or land for keeping the skip. We can get skip hire services along with permits that have up to 14 day validity. Contact us today on 020 8698 8000 to find out more about skip hire permits and other services we have made available for you.

For a while now, there have been recycling targets set by the Environmental Agency and government. These targets are upheld by us at Norris Boughton-Malherbe and here they are: The mission of the Environmental Agency is to ensure the improvement and protection of the environment in England and Wales. There are several government organisations and local authorities they work with to ensure that their targets are met, and other environmental services they have to offer get to areas where they are needed. This agency also works to regularly improve the quality of water, land and air. They have efforts in place for environmental pollution control and to encourage the conservation of nature. That’s not all! The body also enlightens the general populace on issues regarding the environment, improving waste removal standards, encouraging the recycling of household products to reduce the quantity of waste, and lots more. You can reach the Environmental agency at their office in your region, their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD, or call them on 08 708 506 506. To handle Government Targets, a landfill directive was issued. The amount of waste that requires a reduction for landfilling purposes in the UK is specified. It stated also that from 2007, landfills should only accept treated waste. The targets are as follows from the most recent year: No more that 35% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2015. No more that 50% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2013. The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2010 should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. Also added by the Waste Strategy 2000 were the following targets, to ensure 75% waste recovery and the achievement of the landfill directive, the following waste percentages have to be recovered: 67% in 2015, 45% in 2010 and 40% in 2005.
Natural recycling targets were published by the government in Waste Strategy 2000 and are:
33% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2015. Household waste that is composted or recycled in 2010 should be at 30%. No less than 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2005, local authorities were set at 30% for the same year. The government issued a ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” to help local authorities recycle more, reduce waste, and for landfill diversions. A list of materials that can be recycled include: wood, vehicles, composting, clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electricals and electronics, computers, and a few others.
