Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
When hiring a skip, some factors will be important and need to be thought about and considered properly. At Norris Portsmouth, we understand these factors and will briefly explain them to you. Regional Pricing – hiring a skip will cost something different in different regions. A skip priced at £50 in London, for example, may be priced at £20 in Portsmouth. How long you want to keep the skip will affect the price of the skip. The longer the period of time you intend to keep it, the more likely you are to pay a higher amount. Also bearing in mind that skip hire permits only last for a set period of time as well. Limitations and Restrictions – skips usually have weight limits even with their sizes. You need to know about what limitations or restrictions your skip hire service provider may have. Ask if there are any items that aren’t allowed in the skip and stick to the restrictions if there are, so you won’t be sanctioned or fined.
Issues with renting skips in Portsmouth
At Norris Portsmouth, we understand that getting the perfect skip to hire can be a herculean task – especially with the difficulties that comes with getting a skip hire permit. Narrow paths, local council laws, small gardens, double yellow lines, red routes, pedestrian only lanes, congestion zones, limited space in front, and narrow paths are the issues which usually come up with skip renting in Portsmouth. At the rate at which Portsmouth is growing in population, skip hiring will become more and more difficult. Alternative to kip hiring and getting a hire permit, our waste disposal services are available for your use.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
For “controlled waste” deposit, recovery and removal regulation, a new waste licensing system replaced the 1974 Control of Pollution Act in 1994. Any industrial, commercial, or household waste in solid or liquid form is referred to as controlled waste. The license is not needed by those who only dispose of waste from their personal gardens. In order to have the license, the person applying has to show that they are fit to hold it. If an applicant wishes to own a new site, they have to show how “technically competent” they are by possessing the (WAMITAB) certificate, this is the the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board.
Those involved in the creation, bringing in, conveyance, storage, treatment or removal of controlled waste have their own duty of care in section 34 of the Act. The Act stated as follows: “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” Waste disposal regulation is handled by special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005.
Skip Hire Permits
You need a skip hire permit if you want to hire a skip for a construction project and will have to place it on public land. Using land that is not yours to place the skip means you must have a skip hire permit. These lands include federal highways and government roads, third party owned lands, and land along streets. You can use your own land or space without a skip hire permit if you have it, only ensuring you don’t cross into land that isn’t yours. Intruding on another person’s land, privacy or space may get you fined, or the skip may be removed and seized. You can get a skip hire permit for £20, although the skip size and issuing council would also affect the cost. There are skip hire permits that may cost as much as £60, £80, and up to £100 sometimes. The council office is a good place to get all the pricing details you need. However, it’s our duty at Norris Portsmouth to make your skip hire a smooth process. You don’t need the hassle involved with getting a skip hire permit because we can get it for you as we deliver your choice of skip. Request an online quote and we will include the cost of getting a skip hire permit, which would be excluded, of course, if you have property to use. Our skip hire service can come with skip hire permits that are valid for 14 days. We can be reached today on 020 8698 8000 if you want to know more about skip hire permits and other services we have in place for you.

Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
A number of targets for recycling were set by the Environmental Agency and government. We recognize these recycling targets at Norris Portsmouth and here they are: The Environmental Agency is on a mission to make sure the environment in England and Wales is improved and protected. Some government organisations and local authorities are tasked with the job of meeting their targets and making sure other environmental services available get to needed locations. The aim of the agency is also to make sure the quality of land, air and water gets better constantly. They work towards the control of pollution in the environment and encourage the protection of natural resources like plants and animals. It doesn’t stop at that! They also provide enlightenment for people on better waste control methods such as recycling household waste. The agency can be contacted on 08 708 506 506, or by their office in your region. You can also visit their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. As for Government Targets, a landfill directive was released. It states how much the quantity of waste need to be lowered for the purpose of landfills in certain areas of the UK. It stated also that from 2007, landfills should only accept treated waste. Starting from the most recent year, these are the targets: Only 35% of the waste taken in 1995 should be taken for landfill sites in the UK in 2015. No more that 50% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2013. The quantity of waste allowed to be taken and used for landfills in the UK by 2010 shouldn’t exceed 75% of what was taken in 1995. The Waste Strategy 2000 included the following targets, as a way of making sure waste is recovered and the landfill directive is reached: Of all the waste, 67% should be recovered in 2015, 45% of it recovered in 2010, and 40% of it recovered in 2005.
Natural recycling targets were published by the government in Waste Strategy 2000 and are:
Household waste that is composted or recycled in 2015 should make up 33% of total waste. Household waste that is composted or recycled in 2010 should be at 30%. By 2005, 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled – while that of each local authority was 30% as of the same year. To help the local authorities recycle more and reduce waste and for landfill diversions, a “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” was released by the government. The following materials can be recycled: wood, clinical waste, metal, building materials, batteries, paper, printer, cartridges, plastic, electricals and electronics, computers, composting, and various others.
