Skip Hire sizes
We hire out skips in various sizes at Norris South-Ham. Whether you’re planning an office clearing or a home removal, we have the perfect skip size to meet your needs. If you just need a small skip of 2 yards to carry out small DIY projects, or as big as a 12 yard skip for industrial purposes, we have the perfect size for you. Our skip sizes are 2 yard, 4 yard, 6 yard, 8 yard, 10 yard, and 12 yard.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire You can find a 4 yard skip for hire as well at Norris South-Ham. The 4 yard skip has two times the capacity of the 2 yard skip, at a height of 0.90 meters. Its width of 1.5m by 2.5m allows space for larger products, such as kitchen and bathroom refits, appliances, electronics, and furniture. It has enough space for 45 to 50 black waste bags, and a little over 17 full barrow loads of waste. It’s ideal for house or garden clearance, and other DIY projects.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire The 6 yard skip is a very useful tool to have for home extensions and office renovation projects. At Norris South-Ham, we provide the 6 yard skip to carry any builders waste. It is an ideal storage option for materials and waste like stones and soil. - 8 Yard Skip Hire We have the 8 yard skip available, which is perfect for bigger building projects. It’s similar to the 6 yard builders skip, but it can contain much more waste and refits. Just 1.9m by 3.4m wide, yet almost 20% bigger in space than the 6 yard skip. It has enough room for up to 100-115 full black bin bags, or 40 barrow loads of builders waste materials. It is ideal for large home removals as well.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire If you’re looking for a much bigger skip for a large garden clearance or home removal, then you should check out the 10 yard skip. You can also hire this 2.1m by 3.6m wide skip from Norris South-Ham, for your commercial projects. It is big enough to hold up to 52 barrows filled with commercial waste, or 120–140 large bin bags at a time. It works perfectly for large scale site clearance, home removals, and other projects.
- 12 Yard Skip Hire This skip is mainly for industrialized purposes. The 12 yard skip can serve for projects like site clearances, office clearances, and commercial projects that will require large amounts of waste disposal at once, and is available for hire at Norris South-Ham. This skip has a height and a width of 2.5m by 4.0m, giving it enough space for about 150–185 large disposable bags at any time. Waste Recycling Targets
All waste management agencies now have some recycling targets to meet, which are set by the Environmental Agency and the government. Norris South-Ham recognizes these targets and they are: The mission of the Environmental Agency is to ensure the improvement and protection of the environment in England and Wales. They ensure that their targets are met while also offering other environmental services to areas that need them, by working with several other government organisations and local authorities. The quality of water, air, and land is continuously improved by the Environmental Agency. Animals, plants and other natural resources, as well as environmental pollution, are conserved and controlled respectively by them through effort implementation. There is more! The Environmental Agency is determined to educate the people on anything to do with the environment, improve waste disposal standards, and improve the recycling of household items in order to reduce their quantity. Reach out to the Environmental Agency in your area, or you can call 08708 506 506 to contact their headquarters located in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. Government Targets already have a landfill directive issued to this effect. Targets set for lowering the quantity of waste taken to landfill spots in the country is stated in the directive. Starting from the most recent year, these are the targets: The waste taken to landfill spots in the UK should be 35% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2015. The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2013 should be 50% of what was taken in 1995. That waste quantity taken to landfill sites be 75% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2010. Also, some targets were introduced for waste recovery, and to help make the landfill directive achievable by the Waste Strategy 2000: As at 2015, 67% of waste should be recovered, 45% of waste should be recovered as of 2010, while 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005. Contained in the Waste Strategy 2000 are the natural recycling targets published by the government. These targets include: By 2015, 33% of household waste should be composted or recycled. By the year 2010, 30% of household waste should be either recycled or it should be composted. Composting and recycling should be carried out on 25% of household waste as of 2005, while each local authority was 30% in the same year. The government has issued a grant to help local authorities in more recycling, reducing waste, and for landfill diversion, known as the ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. A list of materials that can be recycled include: wood, vehicles, composting, clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electrical and electronics, computers, and various others. Skip Hire Rules and regulations
The Control of Pollution Act of 1974 was replaced by a new waste licensing system in 1994 to regulate the deposit, recovery, and removal of “controlled waste”. Controlled wastes are wastes from industrial, commercial, and household processes in solid or liquid form. Personal garden waste disposal does not require the use of the license. To acquire the permit, all applicants need to show they are fit to hold it. Anyone applying to own a new site has to have the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate, which proves they are “technically competent”.
The duty of care for people who manage creating, bringing in, movement, storing, treating and removing controlled waste is specified in section 34 of the act. The Act stated as follows: “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” The special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005 are in charge of controlling the way waste is disposed.
Skip Hire Permits
To place a skip for a construction project on any public land, you need a skip hire permit. Skip hire permits are necessary for situations where you need to place a skip on a piece of land or in a space that isn’t yours. It could be land that belongs to a third party, a federal highway, government road, or along the street. You don’t need a skip hire permit if you have your own land and won’t be intruding on government or third party-owned land. Your skip could be removed and seized, however, if it extends into land that isn’t yours or that of those involved in your project, you even be fined. With £20, you can get a skip hire permit, but charges may differ because of the skip size or council who issue the permit. There are more expensive skip hire permits; for about £60, £80 and £100. The council office is a good place to get all the pricing details you need. At Norris South-Ham we feel duty bound to ensuring you hire a skip without stress. You don’t need the hassle involved with getting a skip hire permit because we can get it for you as we deliver your choice of skip. When you request an online quote, we include the cost of getting a permit, which will not be necessary if you have land of your own to place the skip in. The permits we provide with skip hire services last as long as 14 days. Call us today on 020 8698 8000 and we will provide you with any details you might need on our skip hire permits and waste management services.

Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
The Environmental Agency and government have been setting recycling targets for some time now. We at Norris South-Ham acknowledge these targets and here they are: The Environmental Agency is on a mission to make sure the environment in England and Wales is improved and protected. Some government organisations and local authorities are tasked with the job of meeting their targets and making sure other environmental services available get to needed locations. The agency aspires to ensure regular improvements in the quality of land, air and water as well. They implement steps that aim to control pollution in the environment, encouraging efforts towards preserving natural resources as well. It doesn’t end there! The body educates the public on environmental matters, like better waste removal standards, by promoting the recycling of household waste to reduce how much waste they have. The Environmental Agency can be contacted on 08708 506 506 or through their office in your locality, or their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. A landfill directive was released because of Government Targets. It states that targets for lowering the quantity of waste taken to landfill spots in the United Kingdom. Inclusions were made for landfills to only take treated waste from 2007. Starting from the most recent year, these are the targets: No more that 35% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2015. No more that 50% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2013. The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2010 should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. Furthermore, the following targets were introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000, for waste recovery and to make the landfill directive achievable: 67% of waste should be recovered as of 2015, 45% of waste should be recovered as of 2010, 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005.
Waste Strategy 2000 had published in it, by the government, the natural recycling targets, which are as follows:
33% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2015. Household waste that is composted or recycled in 2010 should be at 30%. No less than 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2005, local authorities were set at 30% for the same year. A ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” was issued by the government to assist local authorities in more recycling, reduction of waste, and landfill diversions. Here is list of materials that can be recycled: plastic, electricals and electronics, computers, composting, wood, clinical waste, metal, building materials, batteries, paper, printer, cartridges and a lot of others.
