Skip Hire sizes
At Norris Brighton-Hill, we have several sizes of skips for hire. Our skip sizes will fit with whatever you’re planning to do, from office clearing to home removal. If you need a small skip size like a 2 yard, or a big one of 12 yards, either way we have you covered. The other sizes we have include: the 2 Yard Skip, 4 Yard Skip, 6 Yard Skip, 8 Yard Skip, 10 Yard Skip, and the 12 Yard Skip.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire The 4 yard skip is also available for hire at Norris Brighton-Hill. With a height of 0.90 meters, the 4 yard skip is able to accommodate twice the amount of the 2 yard skip. It’s around 1.5m by 2.5m wide, and is perfect for large items like home furniture, appliances, electronics, and bathroom and kitchen refits. It can hold just over 17 full barrow loads of waste and 45 to 50 black waste bags. If you are thinking of DIY projects or garden clearance, this would be a splendid choice.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire The 6 yard skip is a very useful tool to have for home extensions and office renovation projects. Norris Location has 6 yard skips to move builders waste such as concrete, slabs and soil at your disposal. If you want to store heavy waste and bulky materials like soil or stones, the 6 yard skip is just perfect. It has a 1.8m by 3.2m width, wide enough to take about 75 to 95 black disposal bags, or 30 full barrow loads of building waste. This skip is popular with people in any area.
- 8 Yard Skip Hire The 8 yard skip, which we have for hire, is suitable for very big projects such as home extensions. Similar to the 6 yard skip, the 8 yard skip has space for a lot more waste and refits. It has almost 20% more space than the 6 yard skip, and it is just 1.9m by 3.4m in width. It has enough room for up to 100-115 full black bin bags, or 40 barrow loads of builders waste materials. For large home removals, this skip is the ideal choice.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire The 10 yard skip is the one you want if you’re doing a large scale removal or garden clearance. Norris Brighton-Hill has the 2.1m by 3.6m wide 10 yard skip available for hire for commercial projects. The 10 yard skip can contain up to 52 full barrow loads of commercial waste, or 120–140 large bin bags. This skip serves well when used for big building projects and home removals.
- 12 Yard Skip Hire The 12 yard skip is ideal for industrialized projects. The 12 yard skip we have for hire at Norris Brighton-Hill is really big, and is suitable for large commercial projects and office or home clearances that will involve plenty of one time disposals. With a width of 2.5m by 4.0m, this skip is also long enough to contain 150–185 black disposable bags at any time. It can also hold over 62 full barrow loads of paver stones, concrete, soil, slabs and so on.

They control environmental pollution, and also encourage the conservation of animals, plants and other natural resources by implementing certain efforts towards these goals. That’s not all! The body also enlightens the general populace on issues regarding the environment, improving waste removal standards, encouraging the recycling of household products to reduce the quantity of waste, and lots more. That waste quantity taken to landfill sites be 50% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2015. The waste taken to landfill spots in the UK should be 75% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2010. The Waste Strategy of 2000 contains the natural recycling targets published by the government. The following are the targets: By 2015, 33% of household waste should be composted or recycled. Composting and recycling should be carried out on 30% of household waste as at 2010. By the year 2005, 25% of household waste should either be recycled or it should be composted and 30% was set for each local authority in 2005. Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
When hiring a skip, some factors will be important and need to be thought about and considered properly. We understand all of these factors on skip hiring pricing at Norris Brighton-Hill, and we have taken it upon ourselves to briefly help you understand as well. Regional Pricing – skip hire costs are different in each region. You might get a skip at £50 in London, for instance, and get the same skip size for £20 in Brighton-Hill. The length of time you want the skip for will also affect its pricing; the longer you want it for, the higher the cost. Not also forgetting that skip hire permits have a duration too. Limitations and Restrictions – skips usually have weight limits even with their sizes. You need to know about what limitations or restrictions your skip hire service provider may have. You may get fined or sanctioned if you put products in the skip that are not allowed, which is why you need to find out if there are any such products.
Issues with renting skips in Brighton-Hill
We know at Norris Brighton-Hill that hiring the right skip can be exhausting- more so if it involves getting a skip hire permit. The following concerns may be attached to skip hiring in Brighton-Hill: local council laws, double yellow lines, small gardens, narrow paths, congestion zones, limited front space, red routes, and pedestrian only lanes. At the rate at which Brighton-Hill is growing in population, skip hiring will become more and more difficult. However, you can make use of our rubbish removal services, instead of worrying about renting a skip and hustling for a skip hire permit.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
The Control of Pollution Act of 1974 was replaced by a new waste licensing system in 1994 to regulate the deposit, recovery, and removal of “controlled waste”. Any industrial, commercial, or household waste in solid or liquid form is referred to as controlled waste. The license is not needed by those who only dispose of waste from their personal gardens. Anyone applying for the license has to show proof that they can handle it. Anyone applying to own a new site has to have the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate, which proves they are “technically competent”.
Those involved in the creation, bringing in, conveyance, storage, treatment or removal of controlled waste have their own duty of care in section 34 of the Act. It was stated in the Act that “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” Waste disposal methods are regulated by special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005.
Skip Hire Permits
To place a skip for a construction project on any public land, you need a skip hire permit. Skip hire permits are necessary for situations where you need to place a skip on a piece of land or in a space that isn’t yours. The land in question may be that of a third party, a street, a government road, or a federal highway. A skip hire isn’t necessary when you have land to use and won’t be crossing into another person’s land or government owned land. Your skip could be removed and seized, however, if it extends into land that isn’t yours or that of those involved in your project, you even be fined. You can get a skip hire permit for £20, although the skip size and issuing council would also affect the cost. Some skip hire permits cost higher than £20, possibly £60, £80, and up to £100. Any questions you have on pricing can be answered at the local council office. At Norris Brighton-Hill, we consider it our responsibility to ease your skip hire process. We can get you a skip hire permit and deliver the skip you hire to save you stress. When you request an online quote, we include the cost of getting a permit, which will not be necessary if you have land of your own to place the skip in. The permits we have available alongside our skip hire services can serve for up to 14 days. We can be reached today on 020 8698 8000 if you want to know more about skip hire permits and other services we have in place for you.

Therefore, if you need a closed or open skip, you can rely on us to make it available to you with proof of efficiency and quality. Call us today on 020 8698 8000 if you have any concerns, and our experts will answer your questions. Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
The Environmental Agency and government have been setting recycling targets for some time now. We uphold these set recycling rules at Norris Brighton-Hill and you can find them below: The Environmental Agency is on a mission to make sure the environment in England and Wales is improved and protected. Many government organisations and local authorities are in place to ensure recycling targets are met, and that areas needing environmental services receive the services they have available. The aim of the agency is also to make sure the quality of land, air and water gets better constantly. They set up systems to regulate environmental pollution, and also promote the preservation of plants, animals and other natural resources. It doesn’t stop at that! They also provide enlightenment for people on better waste control methods such as recycling household waste. The Environmental Agency can be contacted on 08708 506 506 or through their office in your locality, or their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. As for Government Targets, a landfill directive was released. It states how much the quantity of waste need to be lowered for the purpose of landfills in certain areas of the UK. It also added, from 2007, that landfills shouldn’t take waste that hasn’t been treated. The targets are as follows from the most recent year: The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2015 should be 35% of what was taken in 1995. No more that 50% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2013. The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2010 should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. Also, these targets were introduced by Waste Strategy 2000, for the recovery of waste and achieving the landfill directive: y 2015, 67% of the waste has to be recovered, 45% recovered by 2010, 40% by 2005.
The targets for natural recycling were published in the Waste Strategy 2000 by the government. They include:
No less than 33% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2015. By 2010, 30% of household waste should be composted or recycled. 25% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2005, even though local authorities had a 30% target in the same year. To help the local authorities recycle more and reduce waste and for landfill diversions, a “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” was released by the government. Recyclable materials include the following and more: metal, building materials, batteries, paper, printer, cartridges, plastic, wood, clinical waste electricals and electronics, computers, and composting
