Skip Hire sizes
Our skips are available for hire in different sizes. Whether you’re planning an office clearing or a home removal, we have the perfect skip size to meet your needs. If you need a small skip size like a 2 yard, or a big one of 12 yards, either way we have you covered. Our skips are in sizes 2 yard, 4 yard, 6 yard, 8 yard, 10 yard, and 12 yard.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire You can also hire a 4 yard skip at Norris Ivybridge. With a height of 0.90 meters, the 4 yard skip is able to accommodate twice the amount of the 2 yard skip. Its width of 1.5m by 2.5m allows space for larger products, such as kitchen and bathroom refits, appliances, electronics, and furniture. It has enough space for 45 to 50 black waste bags, and a little over 17 full barrow loads of waste. It will fit well into your garden clearance, or do-it-yourself project plan.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire The 6 yard skip is perfect for home extension projects and office premises renovations. The 6 yard skip may be used to carry builders waste like soil and pavers stones, and is provided at Norris Ivybridge. It’s perfect for stashing away heavy waste and bulky materials like soil or stones. Its holding space can take about to 75 to 95 black disposal bags, or 30 full barrow loads of building dirt, as it has a width of 1.8m by 2.3m. This skip is probably the most used around your area.
- 8 Yard Skip Hire We also provide an 8 yard skip for hire for much larger building projects like home extension projects. It’s similar to the 6 yard builders skip, but it can contain much more waste and refits. It has a width of 1.9m by 3.4m, but has a greater holding capacity than the 6 yard skip by almost 20%. 100-115 black disposable bags can fit well into the 8 yard skip, as can 40 barrow loads of soil, concrete, and other builders waste. If you’re doing a massive home removal, the 8 yard skip would be a perfect choice.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire The 10 skip yard is suitable for really big home removals and garden clearance. If you’re handling a commercial project, the 2.1m by 3.6m wide skip is available for hire at Norris Ivybridge. It is big enough to hold up to 52 barrows filled with commercial waste, or 120–140 large bin bags at a time. It’s ideal for larger building projects, site clearance, or home removals.
- 12 Yard Skip Hire This is more like a small industrial skip. The 12 yard skip can serve for projects like site clearances, office clearances, and commercial projects that will require large amounts of waste disposal at once, and is available for hire at Norris Ivybridge. 150-185 black waste bags can fit into this large 2.3 by 4.0m skip at any time. Over 62 barrow loads of building waste such as slabs, concrete, and soil can safely fit into this skip.

Targets for Waste Recycling
The government and the Environmental Agency have set new targets to be reached by all recycling agencies. Norris Ivybridge recognizes these targets and they are: The aim of the Environmental Agency is to see to the protection and improvement of the environment in Wales and England. The Environmental Agency does not meet its targets or offer other environmental services to areas that need it all alone, because they partner with several other local authorities and organisations to achieve these goals. The Environmental Agency also strives to improve the quality of water, land, and air continuously. They control environmental pollution, and also encourage the conservation of animals, plants and other natural resources by implementing certain efforts towards these goals. It doesn’t end there! The Environmental Agency is determined to educate the people on anything to do with the environment, improve waste disposal standards, and improve the recycling of household items in order to reduce their quantity. You can contact the Environmental Agency office in your region, or visit the head office in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. Telephone: 08708 506 506. Concerning the targets set by the government, they have released a directive. The directive released contains government targets aimed at reducing the amount of waste taken to landfill spots in the UK. The target is set to take effect from the most recent year and they are: Waste quantity taken to landfill sites should be 35% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2015. That the amount of waste taken to landfill spots in the UK by 2013 be only 50% of the amount taken in 1995. By 2010, the waste taken to landfill sites around the United Kingdom should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. To help make the landfill directive achievable and recover waste, the following targets were also introduced by the Waste Strategy 2000: 45% of waste is to be recovered as of 2010, while 67% and 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2015 and 2005 respectively. Contained in the Waste Strategy 2000 are the natural recycling targets published by the government. Below are the targets: The target projects that, as of 2015, 33% of household waste should either be recycled or composted. By 2010, 30% of household waste should be composted or recycled. Composting and recycling should be carried out on 25% of household waste as of 2005, while each local authority was 30% in the same year. The government has issued a grant to help local authorities in more recycling, reducing waste, and for landfill diversion, known as the ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. Materials like batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electrical and electronics, vehicles, wood, clinical waste, building materials, and so on, have been listed as recyclable. To be up to date on any new entry in the targets, especially in recent years, visit the Norris Ivybridge office at Ivybridge.

Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
There a couple of factors that should be taken into consideration when hiring a skip. We understand all of these factors on skip hiring pricing at Norris Ivybridge, and we have taken it upon ourselves to briefly help you understand as well. Regional pricing – skip hire costs differ by location, it could be higher or lower. You may get a skip for £50 in London and get the same skip for £20 in Ivybridge. The length of time you want the skip for will also affect its pricing; the longer you want it for, the higher the cost. Keeping in mind there are time limits on skip hire permits too. Limitations and Restrictions – different skip sizes also have different weight limits. You need to know about what limitations or restrictions your skip hire service provider may have. Find out what products aren’t allowed in the skip and follow the restrictions, to avoid being sanctioned or fined.
Issues with renting skips in Ivybridge
We know at Norris Ivybridge that hiring the right skip can be exhausting- more so if it involves getting a skip hire permit. Issues to be considered when hiring a skip in Ivybridge are local council laws, red routes, double yellow lines, narrow paths, congestion zones, small front space, pedestrian only lanes and red routes. We know that the population in Ivybridge is increasing on a daily basis, meaning getting a space to place a skip will soon become more difficult. You don’t have to worry about skip hiring and acquiring a permit, we can provide waste disposal services instead.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
In 1994, another waste licensing system replaced the 1974 Control of Pollution Act for “controlled waste” regulation – deposit, recovery and removal. Liquid or solid waste from industrial, commercial, and household processes are called controlled wastes. If you only do personal garden waste removal, however, you do not require the license. To acquire the permit, all applicants need to show they are fit to hold it. If an applicant wishes to own a new site, they have to show how “technically competent” they are by possessing the (WAMITAB) certificate, this is the the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board.
Section 34 of the act includes the duty of care for people who are part of creating, bringing in, conveying, storing, treating, and removing controlled waste. The Act stated as follows: “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” Waste disposal regulation is handled by special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005.
Skip Hire Permits
You need a skip hire permit if you want to hire a skip for a construction project and will have to place it on public land. Using land that is not yours to place the skip means you must have a skip hire permit. These lands include federal highways and government roads, third party owned lands, and land along streets. You can use your own land or space without a skip hire permit if you have it, only ensuring you don’t cross into land that isn’t yours. If you happen to cross into someone else’s land who isn’t a part of your project, or invade another person’s privacy with the skip, it could be seized or you could be fined. You can get a skip hire permit for £20, although the skip size and issuing council would also affect the cost. There are skip hire permits that may cost as much as £60, £80, and up to £100 sometimes. You can contact the council office to find out more about the pricing if you wish. We want to ensure you have a much easier skip hire process at Norris Ivybridge. We also provide skip hire permit procurement along with skip delivery to make the whole process stress free. We include the cost of getting ski hire permits in our online quotes when you request them, which can be removed if you already have land or a place on which to put the skip. The permits we have available alongside our skip hire services can serve for up to 14 days. We are always available on 020 8698 8000 to provide you with details on skip hire and other waste disposal services we have.

We can just take them and get them treated for you – depending on how safe those materials are. Medical waste, gas canisters, air conditioning units, heavy duty batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, television sets, refrigerators, and aerosols are prohibited from being in our skips.
Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
For a while now, there have been recycling targets set by the Environmental Agency and government. We at Norris Ivybridge acknowledge these targets and here they are: The goal of the Environmental Agency is to secure the protection and improvement of the environment in England and Wales. There are many government organisations and local authorities that have the duty of making sure these targets are achieved and the services they have available get to the environments that need them. The aim of the agency is also to make sure the quality of land, air and water gets better constantly. They have efforts in place for environmental pollution control and to encourage the conservation of nature. That isn’t even all! The body provides public education on environmental matters as well, supporting the recycling of household waste to reduce the quantity. You can contact the Environmental Agency office in your region, or visit the head office in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. Telephone: 08708 506 506. To handle Government Targets, a landfill directive was issued. It specifies the targets needed to lower the quantity of waste removed to landfill areas in the UK. It added as well that landfills from 2007 should only take waste that has been treated. The targets are as follows from the most recent year: No more that 35% of the waste retrieved to use for landfill sites in the UK should be retrieved by 2015. The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2013 should be 50% of what was taken in 1995. In 2010, only 75% of the waste collected for filling UK landfill sites in 1995 should be collected. Also added by the Waste Strategy 2000 were the following targets, to ensure 75% waste recovery and the achievement of the landfill directive, the following waste percentages have to be recovered: 67% in 2015, 45% in 2010 and 40% in 2005.
Waste Strategy 2000 had published in it, by the government, the natural recycling targets, which are as follows:
33% of household waste has to be composted or recycled in 2015. 30% of household waste has to be composted or recycled in 2010. By 2005, 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled – while that of each local authority was 30% as of the same year. A ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” was set up by the government to move the efforts of the local authorities towards more recycling and reduction of waste, and for landfill diversion. Recyclable materials include the following and more: metal, building materials, batteries, paper, printer, cartridges, plastic, wood, clinical waste electricals and electronics, computers, and composting
