The quantity of waste taken to landfill sites in the UK by 2013 should be 50% of what was taken in 1995. That the amount of waste taken to landfill spots in the UK by 2010 be only 75% of the amount taken in 1995 The Waste Strategy of 2000 introduced the following targets to aid waste recovery and to make the landfill directive achievable: As at 2015, 67% of waste should be recovered, 45% of waste should be recovered as of 2010, while 40% of waste should be recovered as of 2005. The government published the natural recycling targets by the Waste Strategy 2000. Here are the targets: Composting and recycling should be carried out on 33% of household waste as of 2015. 30% of household waste should be composted or recycled by 2010. By 2005, 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled, while that of each local authority was 30% as in the same year. The government has issued a grant to help local authorities in more recycling, reducing waste, and for landfill diversion, known as the ” Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. Recyclable materials were listed, which include: wood, vehicles, clinical waste, building materials, composting, printer cartridges, batteries, paper, computers, plastic, glass, furniture, oil, metal, electronic and electricals, and so on. Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
Skip hire pricing factors need to be well considered before hiring a skip. At Norris Barkham, we understand these factors and will briefly explain them to you. Regional Pricing – every region has its own skip hire cost. You might get a skip at £50 in London, for instance, and get the same skip size for £20 in Barkham. Pricing is also influenced by how long you want to keep the skip, the more time you want it, the higher the cost would likely be. Not also forgetting that skip hire permits have a duration too. Limitations and Restrictions – different skip sizes also have different weight limits. Ask about restrictions on the skip you’re hiring from your service provider. Some items are prohibited from being put in the skips, find out what they are, and obey the restrictions so you don’t get a fine or sanction.
Issues with renting skips in Barkham
Skip hire is not always easy, you have to get the right one, and there’s more stress if you need a permit- we know all of this at Norris Barkham. Some of the issues with renting skips in Barkham are local council laws, pedestrian only lanes, little or no space in front, small gardens, not enough parking space, narrow paths, congestion zones, double yellow lines, and red routes. At the rate at which Barkham is growing in population, skip hiring will become more and more difficult. You can avoid the stress of hiring skips and getting permits by hiring our waste disposal service instead.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
For “controlled waste” deposit, recovery and removal regulation, a new waste licensing system replaced the 1974 Control of Pollution Act in 1994. Liquid or solid waste from industrial, commercial, and household processes are called controlled wastes. However, people who are just disposing of waste from their personal garden were exempted from the need of the license. To acquire the permit, all applicants need to show they are fit to hold it. The Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate is often presented by people applying to own new sites, to show they are “technically competent”.
Those involved in the creation, bringing in, conveyance, storage, treatment or removal of controlled waste have their own duty of care in section 34 of the Act. According to the Act, “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” There are also the special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005, that regulates how waste should be disposed of.
Skip Hire Permits
If you’re going to place a skip you hired for a construction project on public land, you need a skip hire permit. Skip hire permits are necessary for situations where you need to place a skip on a piece of land or in a space that isn’t yours. These lands include federal highways and government roads, third party owned lands, and land along streets. You don’t need a skip hire permit if you have your own land and won’t be intruding on government or third party-owned land. But, if you place a skip in a position that infringes on the privacy of another person not involved in your project, the skip might be removed and seized, or you could even be fined. With £20, you can get a skip hire permit, but charges may differ because of the skip size or council who issue the permit. Some skip hire permits cost higher than £20, possibly £60, £80, and up to £100. You can contact the council office to find out more about the pricing if you wish. However, it’s our duty at Norris Barkham to make your skip hire a smooth process. We can get you a skip hire permit and deliver the skip you hire to save you stress. When you request an online quote, we include the cost of getting a permit, which will not be necessary if you have land of your own to place the skip in. The permits we have available alongside our skip hire services can serve for up to 14 days. We are always available on 020 8698 8000 to provide you with details on skip hire and other waste disposal services we have.

If it is safe enough, we can take those items from you and get them treated. Items such as medical waste, aerosols, electronic appliances, gas canisters, heavy duty batteries, television sets, and fluorescent light bulbs are not allowed in our skips.
Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
Recycling targets were created by the Environmental Agency and government some time ago. We at Norris Barkham acknowledge these targets and here they are: The Environmental Agency aims to make sure the Englands’ and Wales’ environment can improve and is protected. Many government organisations and local authorities are in place to ensure recycling targets are met, and that areas needing environmental services receive the services they have available. The Environmental Agency also strives to improve the quality of water, land, and air continuously. They implement steps that aim to control pollution in the environment, encouraging efforts towards preserving natural resources as well. It doesn’t end there! The body educates the public on environmental matters, like better waste removal standards, by promoting the recycling of household waste to reduce how much waste they have. The Environmental Agency can be contacted on 08708 506 506 or through their office in your locality, or their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. As for Government Targets, a landfill directive was released. It gives a recommended target on how much the amount of waste needs to be reduced for landfilling spots in the United Kingdom. It further stated that, from 2007, landfills were to only take untreated waste. From the most recent year, the targets are the following: Only 35% of the waste taken in 1995 should be taken for landfill sites in the UK in 2015. Only 50% of the waste taken in 1995 should be taken for landfill sites in the UK in 2013. In 2010, only 75% of the waste collected for filling UK landfill sites in 1995 should be collected. In addition to that, the Waste Strategy 2000 introduced the following targets, to recover waste and meet the landfill directive: 67% of the waste must be recovered by 2015, 45% must be recovered by 2010, and 40% must be recovered by 2005.
Natural recycling targets were published by the government in Waste Strategy 2000 and are:
33% of household waste has to be composted or recycled in 2015. 30% of household waste has to be composted or recycled in 2010. No less than 25% of household waste should be composted or recycled in 2005, local authorities were set at 30% for the same year. To help the local authorities recycle more and reduce waste and for landfill diversions, a “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” was released by the government. The following materials can be recycled: wood, clinical waste, metal, building materials, batteries, paper, printer, cartridges, plastic, electricals and electronics, computers, composting, and various others.
