Skip Hire sizes
We have skips for hire in different sizes at Norris Newtown. It doesn’t matter if it is an office clearing or home removal you have planned, we have the right skip sizes for everything. If you just need a small skip of 2 yards to carry out small DIY projects, or as big as a 12 yard skip for industrial purposes, we have the perfect size for you. Our skips are in sizes 2 yard, 4 yard, 6 yard, 8 yard, 10 yard, and 12 yard.
- 4 Yard Skip Hire You can find a 4 yard skip for hire as well at Norris Newtown. The 4 yard skip has two times the capacity of the 2 yard skip, at a height of 0.90 meters. With a 1.5m by 2.5m width, it can hold bigger items like electronics, bathroom refits, furniture, kitchen refits, and appliances. It can hold just over 17 full barrow loads of waste and 45 to 50 black waste bags. This is perfect for garden clearance, and many other DIY projects.
- 6 Yard Skip Hire This skip is ideal if you intend to do a home extension project or renovations on your office premises. At Norris Newtown, we provide the 6 yard skip to carry any builders waste. It works excellently for stashing away heavy waste and materials such as soil and stones. It has a 1.8m by 3.2m width, wide enough to take about 75 to 95 black disposal bags, or 30 full barrow loads of building waste. You’ve probably noticed this skip a lot in your area.
- 8 Yard Skip Hire We have the 8 yard skip available, which is perfect for bigger building projects. It’s not that different from the 6 yard skip, but it has a larger holding capacity. The 8 yard skip is 1.9m by 3.4m wide, but surpasses the 6 yard skip in holding space by almost 20%. 100-115 full black waste bags can be stashed into it safely, or 40 barrow loads of paving stones, bricks, concrete, slabs and soil. It is ideal for large home removals as well.
- 10 Yard Skip Hire For very big home removals or garden clearance, it is recommended to go for the 10 yard skip. Norris Newtown has the 2.1m by 3.6m wide 10 yard skip available for hire for commercial projects. This skip has enough room for about 120–140 big waste bags, or 52 full barrow loads of commercial waste at any time. It’s ideal for larger building projects, site clearance, or home removals.
- 12 Yard Skip Hire This is more like a small industrial skip. We have the 12 yard skip for hire here at Norris Newtown for any large projects, like office or site clearance, and commercial projects that have large routine waste disposal needs. This skip has a height and a width of 2.5m by 4.0m, giving it enough space for about 150–185 large disposable bags at any time. The space in this skip is large enough for more than 62 full barrow loads of slabs, concrete, and more building waste.

Environmental Agency Recycling Targets
All waste management agencies now have some recycling targets to meet, which are set by the Environmental Agency and the government. We acknowledge these targets which include: The agency charged with protecting and improving the English and Welsh environment is the Environmental Agency. Several other local authorities and organisations work with the Environmental Agency to achieve its aims, and to provide other environmental services to areas in need of it. The Environmental Agency continuously strives to improve water, land, and air quality. They control environmental pollution, and also encourage the conservation of animals, plants and other natural resources by implementing certain efforts towards these goals. That’s not all! The agency also puts effort in ensuring that people are up to date in environmental matters, raises waste removal standards and promotes the recycling of household products to significantly reduce the quantity of waste, among other objectives. With the telephone number – 08708 506 506, you can contact the Environmental Agency head office in Bristol at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD, or contact their office in your region. A landfill directive has been released in relation to Government Targets. The directive sets out all the targets to be reached, which will see a decrease of the quantity of waste taken to different landfill spots in the United Kingdom. From the recent year, the targets include: By 2015, the waste taken to landfill sites around the United Kingdom should be 35% of what was taken in 1995. That waste quantity taken to landfill sites be 50% of the amount taken in 1995 by 2015. By 2010, the waste taken to landfill sites around the United Kingdom should be 75% of what was taken in 1995. The Waste Strategy of 2000 introduced the following targets to aid waste recovery and to make the landfill directive achievable: 45% of all waste should be recovered by the end of 2010, 67% of waste should be recovered by 2015, while 40% of waste be recovered as of 2005. For the natural recycling targets, you’ll find them published by the government in the Waste Strategy 2000. The following are the targets: By 2015, 33% of household waste should be composted or recycled. Composting and recycling should be carried out on 30% of household waste as at 2010. Composting and recycling should be carried out on 25% of household waste as of 2005, while each local authority was 30% in the same year. The government, in its quest to reduce waste, for landfill diversion, and to assist local authorities in more recycling, has issued a “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant”. Materials like batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electrical and electronics, vehicles, wood, clinical waste, building materials, and so on, have been listed as recyclable. At Norris Newtown office at Newtown, you will get updated if there are any additions to the above targets, especially in recent years.

Other Skip Hire Pricing Factors
There a couple of factors that should be taken into consideration when hiring a skip. At Norris Newtown, we understand these factors and will briefly explain them to you. Regional Pricing – hiring a skip will cost something different in different regions. If you get a skip for £50 in London, for example, the same size might cost you just £20 in Newtown. Pricing is also influenced by how long you want to keep the skip, the more time you want it, the higher the cost would likely be. Remembering as well that skip hire permits have a time frame and expiry dates. Limitations and Restrictions – no matter the size of a skip, it will still have a weight limit. Ask your skip hire service provider if they have restrictions on their skips. Find out what products aren’t allowed in the skip and follow the restrictions, to avoid being sanctioned or fined.
Issues with renting skips in Newtown
The process of hiring a skip is often difficult, especially if you want to get a skip hire permit as well. We know about all of these difficulties at Norris Newtown. Issues to be considered when hiring a skip in Newtown are local council laws, red routes, double yellow lines, narrow paths, congestion zones, small front space, pedestrian only lanes and red routes. We know that the population in Newtown is increasing on a daily basis, meaning getting a space to place a skip will soon become more difficult. Our waste management services are readily available if you wish to skip the whole task of skip hiring.
Skip Hire Rules and regulations
The Control of Pollution Act of 1974 was replaced by a new waste licensing system in 1994 to regulate the deposit, recovery, and removal of “controlled waste”. Any industrial, commercial, or household waste in solid or liquid form is referred to as controlled waste. Personal garden waste disposal does not require the use of the license. Proof of fitness to hold the license determines if it will be granted. “Technical competence” is something an applicant for new site ownership needs to show by having the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate .
Those involved in the creation, bringing in, conveyance, storage, treatment or removal of controlled waste have their own duty of care in section 34 of the Act. The Act stated as follows: “any escape or waste must be avoided, waste can only be moved to an authorized person, the waste being transferred should go with a written description or you will be penalized.” Waste disposal regulation is handled by special waste regulations 1996 and the hazardous waste regulations 2005.
Skip Hire Permits
If you’re going to place a skip you hired for a construction project on public land, you need a skip hire permit. Skip hire permits are necessary for situations where you need to place a skip on a piece of land or in a space that isn’t yours. Federal highways, streets, government roads, and land owned by any third party are those that require skip hire permits. You can use your own land or space without a skip hire permit if you have it, only ensuring you don’t cross into land that isn’t yours. If you happen to cross into someone else’s land who isn’t a part of your project, or invade another person’s privacy with the skip, it could be seized or you could be fined. For as low as £20 you can get a skip hire permit – depending on the size of the skip and the council that is issuing the permit to you at the time. There are skip hire permits that may cost as much as £60, £80, and up to £100 sometimes. Details on skip hire costs can be requested from the local council office. At Norris Newtown we feel duty bound to ensuring you hire a skip without stress. Why bother then with getting a skip hire permit when we can get it done for you, along with delivering the skip you hire? Request an online quote and we will include the cost of getting a skip hire permit, which would be excluded, of course, if you have property to use. We provide skip hire services along with permits that last for up to 14 days. We can be reached today on 020 8698 8000 if you want to know more about skip hire permits and other services we have in place for you.
Tested skips with certificate
If you’re hiring for the first time, you may have concerns on how safe and effective skips are when they are in use. Along with making various skip sizes available to you, we also give you skips that have been tested and have certificates to show just that at Norris Newtown. Therefore, if you need a closed or open skip, you can rely on us to make it available to you with proof of efficiency and quality. We can be reached as well on 020 8698 8000, and our experts will provide any details you need. Alternatively, you can visit us at our office in Newtown and we will make the tested skip of your choice available – with certificate.
At Norris Newtown, we allow a large variety of waste to be put in our skips. But there are restrictions on certain products, and they are not allowed in our skips. We can provide you with treatment services for materials like that, depending on how safe they are. The prohibited items include medical waste, automotive oils and fluids, car tyres, plasterboard, gas canisters, aerosols, television sets, air conditioning units, refrigerators, heavy duty batteries, and fluorescent light bulbs.
Recycling Targets/Landfill Policy
For a while now, there have been recycling targets set by the Environmental Agency and government. These targets are upheld by us at Norris Newtown and here they are: The Environmental Agency is on a mission to make sure the environment in England and Wales is improved and protected. Many government organisations and local authorities are in place to ensure recycling targets are met, and that areas needing environmental services receive the services they have available. The aim of the agency is also to make sure the quality of land, air and water gets better constantly. They work towards the control of pollution in the environment and encourage the protection of natural resources like plants and animals. That isn’t even all! The body provides public education on environmental matters as well, supporting the recycling of household waste to reduce the quantity. You can visit them at their office in your region, or their head office at Rio House, Waterside Drive, Almondsbury BS32 4UD. You can also call them on 08 708 506 506. With respect to Government Targets, a landfill directive was released. It specifies the targets needed to lower the quantity of waste removed to landfill areas in the UK. It added as well that landfills from 2007 should only take waste that has been treated. Find the targets below, starting from the most recent year: In 2015, only 35% of the waste collected for filling UK landfill sites in 1995 should be collected. Only 50% of the waste taken in 1995 should be taken for landfill sites in the UK in 2013. Only 75% of the waste taken in 1995 should be taken for landfill sites in the UK in 2010. Also, these targets were introduced by Waste Strategy 2000, for the recovery of waste and achieving the landfill directive: y 2015, 67% of the waste has to be recovered, 45% recovered by 2010, 40% by 2005.
The government published, in the Waste Strategy 2000, the following natural recycling targets:
33% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2015. 30% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2010. 25% of household waste must be composted or recycled as of 2005, even though local authorities had a 30% target in the same year. To help the local authorities recycle more and reduce waste and for landfill diversions, a “Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant” was released by the government. Wood, vehicles, composting, clinical waste, building materials, batteries, paper, printer cartridges, plastic, furniture, glass, oil, metal, electricals and electronics, computers, and more are recyclable.
